Indian Instagram soon to start receiving advertisements

The Facebook owned Photo-sharing App Instagram has opened its platform for advertisers from India and 30 other countries to advertise on the app. So the users are to receive ads on Instagram too. The ads are sure to torture the user but Instagram will prove to be a powerful medium of for the advertisers.

Instagram has been gaining users in India. Surveys shows that Instagram is the second-most preferred platform after Facebook for photo sharing. The ads were first launched in the US in November 2013. Instagram ads are currently available in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Brazil, Australia and Japan.

“Starting this month, Instagram will enable any advertiser large or small to run ads on the platform in India. We will offer a new suite of features, including more action-oriented ad formats, landscape images and videos,” Facebook India Managing Director Kirthiga Reddy.

In India, Instagram will see ads from four partners—traditional Indian drinks brand PaperBoat, operated by Hector Beverages Pvt. Ltd; haircare brand TRESemmé, owned by Unilever; chocolate brand Kitkat, owned by Nestle India Pvt. Ltd; and men’s razor brand Gillette, owned by Proctor and Gamble.

While Kitkat will use the 30-second video ad format on Instagram, the other three brands have chosen the still imagery format.

Instagram has more than 300 million users around the world and the reach of the advertisements will also be high. With the addition of new formats, Instagram has taken marketing to the next level.
