India Design Mark for quality design standards

Design is everywhere. And it is to make things better for people. Design could be viewed as an activity that translates an idea into a blueprint for something useful, whether it's a car, a building, a graphic, a service or a process. The important part is the translation of the idea, through design's ability.
By introducing India Design Mark, the highest design recognition from the Indian Government through India Design Council it was aimed to achieve quality approval in design for the product. When making a choice between two similar products, customers are more likely to choose products bearing India Design Mark.
IMark recognizes good design by rigorous and systematized process against established criteria. India Design Mark symbolizes excellence in form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, innovation and communicates that the product is usable, durable, aesthetically appealing & socially responsible. India Design Council has initiated India Design Mark in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). This award system was originally born in 1957. Approximately 37,000 Good Design Awards have been given in continuing in the last 50 years.
For the industry, IMark is a business tool, as it recognizes a well designed product, which is trust worthy, valuable, preferred by customers and is manufactured in a responsible manner. For consumers, IMark is yardstick to ensure good value for money. For designers, IMark is reward of good work. For society, IMark is an enrichment tool as it promotes responsible ways of manufacturing products and aids industrial development in the country. IMark is for everyone. Anyone from global enterprises be it, micro, small and medium sized enterprises or cottage industry can apply for an IMark. The entry should be mass produced and should satisfy the requirements.

Applications for IMark 2016 are now open. India Design Mark (IMark) is a design standard. It is not a standard design contest. It is a recognition. IMark 2016 focuses on creating awareness and promotes value of design in the industry and society by raising demand for good design from users and manufacturers of good design. The symbol can be used in a wide range of ways, such as advertisements, catalogues, product packaging, and other promotional mediums.
All types of mass-produced products are eligible for India Design Mark, which may include consumer electronics, computer and communication products, machine tools, construction machinery, lighting systems, white goods, household appliances, capital goods, medical equipment, toys, vehicles, agricultural machinery, etc. Anyone can apply - the manufacturer, the brand owner or the designer and any product, which is designed and is in market since January 2013 can be entered.
The India Design Council has initiated India Design Mark in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). The cooperation is in the form of learning from the well-established Good Design Award system in Japan functioning since 1957, to establish judging criteria for India Design Mark and inviting experts to be a part of jury for India Design Mark determination.
