Apple is said to launch the much awaited iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on October 16 in India which will be one of the fastest roll outs from the company. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is already out on sale in US and other countries from 25th September and the October 16th release date means that India is getting the new models in less than a month’s time.
While the early launch is good news for India but in terms of pricing, the new devices will start at a much higher price than that of the previous two smartphones. The company has informed its trade partners and top retailers in India that the company will undertake a big midnight launch of the new iPhones on October 16th, with an aim to grow sales by 50-60% over what it had sold in India during last year's launch phase.
Apple has also asked the large retail chains, Apple Premium Resellers and big local stores to take pre-booking orders from the first week of October by then the company would formalize and announce the price, three senior officials said.
Apple launched the iconic iPhone way back in 2007 but for a long time chose to ignore India. In the last few years, the company has increased its focus on the country and in the last quarter iPhone sales grew by 93% in the country. Absolute sales volume, however, remain low and the company sold 0.5 million handsets in the country in the previous quarter as compared to 13-14 million in China.
The new iPhones bring 3D touch which will allow for new gestures like peek and pop. It also comes with a 2GB RAM. Apple has also updated the camera of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus to 12 megapixel isight camera which is now capable of shooting 4K videos. The front FaceTime camera is now 5megapixel and Apple is using the display to light up at night time to click better selfies.
