The social networking giant has tied-up with five publishers including India Today, The Quint, Aaj Tak, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express to pilot the service and monitor how different types of content is being consumed in the Indian market. It plans to open the platform to other publishers early next year.

"Facebook's Instant Articles has developed and refined as an excellent product and tool to have our award-winning reportage, columnists and bloggers reach out to more readers, all in multimedia. We're happy to be in the first line of partnerships Facebook has struck in India for the Instant Articles rollout, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Facebook," says Anant Goenka, wholetime director and head, New Media, The Indian Express Group.

Besides hosting the content, Facebook will provide various immersive storytelling tools like high-resolution photos that users can instantly zoom by tilting their phones, autoplay videos, interactive maps, embedded audio captions and inline comments among others. It will also share analytics data and provide the ability for publishers to track their traffic with tools like comScore, Google Analytics and Omniture. Facebook claims that thest articles load about 10 times faster than the standard mobile web connection so that the user doesn’t go elsewhere for news.
