This fair also hosts hundreds of authors, both established and emerging, writing not only in English and Hindi but also in many Indian languages.
India is one of the world's major publishing industry. An industry, estimates to Rs. 12000 crore. It is also a very complex market, characterised by a strong publishing presence in over 20 languages. The majority of Indian readership is young. This has resulted in a spurt of growth in first generation readers whose varied interests remain a challenge to the industry.
Being the apex Institution promoting books and publications, the National Book Trust, India plays a pivotal role in bringing before a large audience a wide range of books and literature on diverse subjects. The New Delhi World Book Fair has become an important event in the calendar of publishers and readers alike.
