Veteran media professional R Rajmohan retires

Veteran media professional and Chief Marketing Officer (North & East) and Head of Special Projects at Malayala Manorama, R Rajmohan, retires today, concluding an illustrious 37-year career across some of the country’s leading media houses. Rajmohan, who turned 60 in April this year, has been with the Malayala Manorama group for nearly nine years. His career also includes notable tenures at The Open Magazine, The Times of India, India Today Group, Outlook Group, and Hindustan Times.

“It was in June 1987 that my professional journey began with TOI from 7, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Thirty seven years later when I decided to hang up my boots, my current office, that of Malayala Manorama, is across the road in Rouse Avenue. Between these years, I have traversed a lot of distance, seen many phases of the media landscape, various trends emerging and new media forms evolving,” Rajmohan shares with pride and a touch of mixed emotions.

“Professionally, it’s been a challenging and immensely satisfying journey. All good things must come to an end. I thought it was time I took that call. Perhaps, better things await,” Rajmohan shared.

Notably, Rajmohan served as President of the Association of Indian Magazines (AIM), making a significant and lasting impact on the industry. As he transitions into retirement, he reflects fondly on the experiences and achievements that have shaped his career, expressing deep gratitude for the opportunities he’s had and the relationships he’s built along the way. “Over the years, I witnessed the evolution of media trends and the emergence of new forms.”

When asked about his next innings, Rajmohan laughs, “I will just chill. I would like to read, travel, listen to music, and enjoy my life without chasing targets. I would explore more and pick up threads I left behind over forty years ago when I accidentally strayed into corporate media life,” he said when pressed further.
