Penelope Bourbon, founded by childhood friends Mike Paladini and Daniel Polise alongside Paladini’s wife Kerry, has unveiled its Classic Series of Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye. Known for transparency and innovation, the brand continues to grow under Luxco ownership, exploring the fundamentals of whiskey with fresh nuance and authenticity.

Penelope Bourbon has built its reputation on transparency, innovation, and a heartfelt origin story. The brand was born when childhood friends Mike Paladini and Daniel Polise, together with Paladini’s wife Kerry, decided to create their own whiskey label. At the time, Mike and Kerry were expecting their first child, Penelope, whose name inspired the brand’s identity. What began as a family-driven idea has since evolved into one of the most talked-about names in American whiskey.

From the outset, Penelope distinguished itself by openly acknowledging its partnership with MGP, the Indiana-based distiller. Rather than obscuring its sourcing, the brand embraced honesty, working with Speyside Cooperage to secure casks for its oak finishes. Early blending and bottling took place at Castle & Key Distillery before operations moved to Bardstown Bourbon Company. In May 2022, Penelope entered a new chapter when Luxco, MGP’s consumer-facing subsidiary, acquired the brand, providing resources to accelerate its growth while maintaining its ethos of transparency.

Over the past two years, Penelope has expanded its portfolio with a range of expressions, from creative barrel finishes to releases focused on age and proof. Yet, in a move that sets it apart from many established whiskey houses, Penelope has chosen to revisit the fundamentals. Its newly launched Classic Series, comprising Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Straight Rye, reflects a deliberate exploration of whiskey in its purest form. By concentrating on the essentials, the brand demonstrates that innovation need not always mean complexity; sometimes, it lies in refining tradition.
