Toyota Australia and Saatchi & Saatchi Australia have unveiled ‘Mud Dance’, a playful new campaign under the ‘Don’t Send a Ute to Do a HiLux Job’ platform. Directed by Nick Kelly, the film showcases HiLux’s legendary capability against a convoy of struggling utes, set to Mary Schneider’s yodelling ‘Blue Danube’.

Toyota Australia has once again leaned into its celebrated ‘Don’t Send a Ute to Do a HiLux Job’ platform, unveiling a campaign that turns rugged off-road capability into pure entertainment. Titled Mud Dance, the latest work from Saatchi & Saatchi Australia reimagines the HiLux’s unbreakable spirit through a choreographed spectacle of mud, music and motion.

The hero film, directed by Nick Kelly of MOFA, opens with a group of campers attempting to reach a campsite perched at the top of a muddy hillside. As they make their ascent, a convoy of utes finds itself slipping, sliding and spinning in the treacherous terrain. What begins as a struggle quickly transforms into a dance-off, with vehicles twirling and pirouetting in the mud to Mary Schneider’s eccentric yodelling rendition of The Blue Danube. The HiLux, however, refuses to be distracted by theatrics. True to its reputation, it powers steadily up the hill, bypassing the chaos and proving once again that when the job needs doing, HiLux is the ute Australians trust.

Vin Naidoo, Chief Marketing Officer at Toyota Australia, underscored the campaign’s message: “For decades, Australians have trusted HiLux to get the job done in some of the toughest conditions imaginable. Mud Dance builds on that enduring Unbreakable spirit, following the success of Don’t Send a Ute to Do a HiLux Job and bringing HiLux capability to life in a way that is unmistakably Toyota: confident, entertaining and grounded in a truth our customers already know.”

The campaign cleverly balances humour with authenticity. By staging a muddy ballet of lesser utes, Toyota highlights HiLux’s reliability without resorting to heavy-handed comparisons. The juxtaposition of whimsical yodelling and the practical determination of the HiLux creates a memorable piece of brand storytelling that resonates with audiences who value both entertainment and engineering credibility.

Saatchi & Saatchi Australia’s creative approach continues to evolve the platform, ensuring it remains fresh while reinforcing HiLux’s core positioning. The decision to pair the film with Mary Schneider’s quirky soundtrack adds a distinctly Australian flavour, celebrating the brand’s connection to local culture while amplifying the campaign’s playful tone.

For Toyota, Mud Dance is more than a light-hearted advertisement; it is a reaffirmation of HiLux’s place in the national psyche. By turning a muddy hillside into a stage, the campaign demonstrates that capability need not be dry or technical—it can be expressed with confidence, humour and unmistakable flair. In doing so, Toyota Australia ensures that HiLux remains not just a vehicle, but a symbol of resilience, reliability and the ability to rise above the fray.
