KitKat has launched a new festive campaign conceptualised by VML India that highlights the everyday mishaps and last-minute rushes that often accompany celebrations. Through humour and relatable storytelling, the campaign reinforces the brand’s long-standing message that taking a short break can help people rediscover the joy of festivities.
As festive celebrations fill homes with lights, gatherings and traditions, KitKat is turning the spotlight on a less glamorous but equally familiar side of the season: the inevitable chaos that comes with it.
The confectionery brand has unveiled a new festive campaign, conceptualised by VML India, that embraces the small frustrations and unexpected disruptions that often punctuate celebrations. From hurried last-minute preparations to plans that veer off course, the campaign captures the moments when festivities do not unfold exactly as intended and offers a simple solution rooted in the brand’s iconic proposition: taking a break.
Built around relatable situations and a playful narrative, the campaign recognises that while festivals are associated with happiness and togetherness, they also bring moments of stress and disorder. Rather than focusing solely on picture-perfect celebrations, KitKat’s latest film spotlights the real-life experiences that many consumers encounter during festive occasions.
According to Nestlé India, the campaign seeks to remind people that a brief pause can help restore perspective and bring back the enjoyment of the celebration.
“Festivals are a time for joy, celebration and making memories, but the little things that do not go as planned are part of the experience too. KitKat has always been a beloved companion for meaningful breaks, and with this campaign we want to remind everyone that taking a quick pause can lighten up the festive mood,” said Gopichandar J, Director – Confectionery, Nestlé India.
The campaign also reflects a broader shift in festive advertising, which has increasingly moved towards authenticity and everyday storytelling. Rather than portraying celebrations as flawless occasions, brands are looking to connect with consumers through familiar situations that mirror real experiences.
Varun Sethuraman, Head of Marketing Communications at Nestlé India, said the campaign was designed to remain grounded in the realities of consumers’ lives.
“We believe that building meaningful brands means staying connected to the realities of consumers’ lives. Festive advertising often celebrates the big, joyful moments, but it’s the small, unexpected moments that make these occasions real and relatable. KitKat brings its distinctive brand philosophy into a familiar cultural context, finding a fresh and humorous way to connect with consumers,” he said.
For VML India, the campaign continues a long-standing association between the agency and the brand, particularly during a period that holds significant cultural and commercial importance.
Kunal Roy, Managing Partner, West & Growth, VML India, described the film as a timely reminder for consumers navigating the demands of the festive season.
“We’re excited to partner KitKat once again during the festive season that holds so much significance for both the brand and the consumer. This film from KitKat is a fun reminder to take a break, especially in the midst of the festive frenzy,” he said.
Rohan Kumar, Executive Creative Director, VML India, said the creative idea stemmed from the universal truth that even the best-laid festive plans rarely go uninterrupted.
Referencing John Lennon’s famous observation that life happens while people are busy making other plans, Kumar noted that festivals are no exception. The campaign, he said, aims to capture those instantly recognisable moments when celebrations go slightly sideways and show how a simple break can help restore the festive spirit.
Now live across YouTube and Meta platforms, the campaign gives KitKat a playful and distinctive voice during the festive season, positioning the brand not just as part of the celebration, but as a companion for navigating the joyful chaos that comes with it.
