G. KRISHNAKUMAR NAMED NFDC CHAIRMAN

Malayalam actor and BJP leader G. Krishnakumar has been appointed part-time Chairman of the NFDC for three years. Malayalam actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader G. Krishnakumar has been appointed as the new part-time Chairman and non-official Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). His three-year tenure, beginning in April 2026, signals a notable convergence of cinema and politics in India’s cultural sphere.  

Krishnakumar, who entered politics by joining the BJP in 2021, has contested both the 2021 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His appointment is widely interpreted as a strategic move by the central government to integrate voices from the film industry into national cultural policy. The NFDC, established to produce films, promote Indian cinema, and manage the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), now has a leader whose career spans both artistic and political domains.
