Acclaimed Malayalam literary critic Dr P.K. Rajasekharan has assumed charge as Editor-in-Charge of Bhashaposhini, the prestigious literary magazine published by the Malayala Manorama group. A scholar, author and award-winning critic, Rajasekharan’s appointment is seen as a significant moment for Malayalam literary journalism and the magazine’s continuing cultural legacy.
Renowned Malayalam literary critic Dr P. K. Rajasekharan has assumed charge as the Editor-in-Charge of Bhashaposhini, one of Kerala’s most respected literary magazines, marking a notable development in the state’s literary and publishing circles.
Published by the Malayala Manorama group, Bhashaposhini has long occupied a prominent position in Malayalam literary culture. Founded in 1892, the magazine is among the oldest Malayalam literary journals and has historically served as a platform for literary criticism, fiction, poetry and intellectual debate.
Dr Rajasekharan, a distinguished academic and critic, holds a PhD from the University of Kerala and is widely recognised for his contributions to Malayalam literary criticism and cultural studies. Over the years, he has earned acclaim for his writings on modernism, postmodernism and the evolution of Malayalam fiction.
A recipient of several literary honours, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Literary Criticism, he has authored numerous influential works examining Malayalam novels, media culture and contemporary literary theory. His scholarly work on the original version of Indulekha, regarded as the first Malayalam novel, also drew widespread attention in literary academia.
His appointment to the top editorial position at Bhashaposhini is expected to strengthen the magazine’s intellectual and literary direction at a time when Malayalam publishing is navigating both digital transformation and changing reading habits. The publication’s editorial structure traditionally comprises a senior editorial team led by the Editor-in-Chief, who oversees the magazine’s literary vision and editorial policy.
Writers and readers in Kerala’s literary community have welcomed the development, viewing Dr Rajasekharan’s stewardship as a continuation of Bhashaposhini’s longstanding commitment to serious literary engagement and critical discourse.
With a career spanning literary criticism, journalism and public intellectual debate, Dr Rajasekharan now takes charge of a publication that has shaped generations of Malayalam readers and writers for well over a century.
