MIOMOJO CHAMPIONS FASHION WITHOUT CRUELTY

Italian brand Miomojo, founded in 2012 by Claudia Pievani, is redefining luxury fashion with plant-based alternatives to leather, crafted from apples, oranges, corn, cactus, olives and repurposed waste. Combining Italian craftsmanship with sustainability, the Bergamo-based company also donates part of its revenue to global animal welfare organisations, embedding ethics into design.

Headquartered in Bergamo, northern Italy, Miomojo has emerged as one of the most compelling voices in sustainable fashion. Founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Claudia Pievani, the brand has built its reputation on handbags and accessories made entirely from plant-based alternatives to leather, including apples, oranges, corn, cactus, olives and repurposed agricultural waste. This innovative approach demonstrates that high fashion can be achieved without compromising animal welfare.

Italian craftsmanship lies at the heart of Miomojo’s philosophy, but it is paired with advanced material research that pushes the boundaries of what luxury design can be. The company’s ethos is that sustainability should be embedded within the object itself, not treated as decoration or marketing. By proving that elegance and ethics can coexist, Miomojo is challenging long-held assumptions about what defines luxury.

Beyond its products, Miomojo has woven philanthropy into its business model. A portion of its revenue is dedicated to organisations working globally to protect animals and ecosystems. Beneficiaries include PETA, the American animal rights group based in Virginia; FOUR PAWS, headquartered in Vienna; Hong Kong’s ANIMALS ASIA; and the LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa, operated by FOUR PAWS. This commitment underscores the brand’s belief that fashion can be a force for good, extending its impact far beyond the atelier.

Claudia Pievani has been candid about her motivations. In a recent LinkedIn post, she reflected on the realities behind many of the beautiful objects displayed in prestigious shop windows, noting that her decision to establish Miomojo was driven by a desire to create fashion without cruelty. Her words highlight the tension between traditional luxury and the hidden costs borne by animals, a tension Miomojo seeks to resolve through innovation and compassion.

In an industry often criticised for its environmental footprint and reliance on animal-derived materials, Miomojo’s model offers a blueprint for change. By combining next-generation materials with Italian artistry and a commitment to animal welfare, the brand is not only redefining material standards but also reshaping consumer expectations. For those who believe that style should never come at the expense of ethics, Miomojo represents a new chapter in luxury fashion.
