Social media influencers from 19 BRICS nations experienced Kochi’s Water Metro, broadcasting its unique blend of tradition and technology to millions worldwide. The eco‑friendly electric hybrid boats, scenic backwaters and high‑tech design captivated vloggers, turning the journey into a viral showcase of Kerala’s innovation and natural beauty.

The serene backwaters of Kochi became the stage for a remarkable cultural exchange when social media influencers and content creators from 19 BRICS countries boarded the city’s Water Metro. Their 45‑minute journey from Mattancherry to the High Court terminal was more than a ride; it was a live broadcast of Kerala’s ingenuity and charm to audiences across continents.

For many of these digital storytellers, accustomed to sharing viral content from bustling cities and exotic landscapes, Kochi’s Water Metro was a revelation. Combining the heritage of traditional water transport with cutting‑edge technology, the electric hybrid boats offered a sustainable model that resonated deeply with the visitors. Cameras clicked incessantly as the influencers captured the kaleidoscope of Kochi’s waterfront — the play of light on the water, the bustle of ferries, and the architectural contrasts lining the shore.

The group of 35, hailing from nations as diverse as Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, were visibly enthralled. Some streamed the experience live, sharing the Water Metro’s sleek interiors and panoramic views with millions of followers. Others crafted narratives highlighting how Asia’s first integrated water transport system symbolises a forward‑looking approach to urban mobility.

The visit formed part of their itinerary as guests of India’s Ministry of External Affairs during the BRICS summit in New Delhi. After stops in Delhi, Agra, Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala and Kumarakom, Kochi provided a fitting finale. The Water Metro, with its eco‑friendly credentials and futuristic design, stood out as a testament to Kerala’s ability to harmonise development with environmental responsibility.

For the influencers, the journey was not merely about transport but about storytelling. They recognised the Water Metro as an emblem of how local innovation can inspire global audiences. In their posts, the boats became more than vessels; they were symbols of a city embracing modernity while cherishing its natural heritage.

Kochi’s experiment in sustainable water transport has already drawn attention nationally, but the presence of international digital ambassadors amplified its reach. Their live streams and viral clips ensured that the Water Metro was not just a regional marvel but a global talking point.

As the boats glided across the backwaters, carrying voices and visions from 19 countries, Kochi’s Water Metro achieved something extraordinary: it became a bridge between cultures, a showcase of Kerala’s beauty, and a beacon of innovation. For the city, the journey was proof that its waters can carry stories as powerfully as they carry passengers.
