Digital lender MONEYME has launched its ‘Bank Beating Loans’ campaign, created by Otherside, to challenge Australians’ reliance on traditional banks. Using humour, bold creative and a national rollout, the campaign positions MONEYME as a faster, more flexible alternative, aiming to disrupt entrenched borrowing habits and build its profile as a challenger brand.
MONEYME is taking direct aim at Australia’s banking establishment with a new national campaign designed to challenge the ingrained consumer habit of turning to traditional banks when borrowing. The fintech’s ‘Bank Beating Loans’ initiative, developed by creative agency Otherside, positions MONEYME as a faster, more flexible alternative, using humour and provocation to highlight frustrations with slow approvals and rigid processes.
At the centre of the campaign is a hero film featuring a banker inside a 1983 Mercedes, surrounded by frustrated Australians ready to vent years of irritation at the inefficiencies of traditional institutions. By employing the comedy principle of “punching up”, the film underscores how banks have long held disproportionate power in the lending space, while MONEYME offers a more straightforward option.
The irreverent tone carries across the wider campaign, with the cheeky line “Sick of dealing with _ankers?” and the promise of “bank beating loans” reinforcing MONEYME’s challenger positioning. The creative approach reflects the lender’s determination to stand apart from the “big dogs” of finance. Otherside Studios Creative Director Michael Beveridge said the brief was to go as hard as possible in celebrating MONEYME’s difference. “This is unlike any ad you’ll see in the banking space because, as we say it, they’re not a bank,” he explained.
MONEYME Chief Marketing Officer Bryce Griffith emphasised the need to shift consumer behaviour. “Australians shop around for better deals on just about everything, but when it comes to borrowing money, too many still go straight to their bank. We want to change that. Whether it’s offering better rates, getting approved faster or simply picking up the phone when customers call, we believe Australians deserve better than what they’ve come to expect from traditional banks,” he said. Griffith added that Otherside had delivered a campaign that was bold, entertaining and unmistakably MONEYME, designed to make borrowers think twice about their choices.
The campaign is supported by longstanding media agency Optimise, which has rolled out executions across BVOD and an extensive out-of-home presence, including large-format billboards, street furniture and bus backs. Optimise CEO Chris Barron praised the creative’s unapologetic tone, noting that MONEYME’s products, fast approvals and customer service genuinely set them apart from the big banks. “Otherside and MONEYME have done a great job here, and great creative always makes our job easier,” he said.
Together, the campaign elements are designed to reach potential customers across multiple stages of consideration, while reinforcing MONEYME’s profile as a fintech challenger. With nearly three in four Australians believing the country would benefit from more alternatives to the big banks, according to YouGov, MONEYME’s bold new push aims to capture that sentiment and convert it into action.
