PepsiCo Internacional Mexico has won the prestigious World Best Packaging Award for its daring collaboration between Flamin’ Hot and Holanda ice cream. The design captures the duality of a popsicle with a spicy kick, using vibrant colours and stylised flames to spark curiosity and deliver a provocative sensory promise.

PepsiCo Internacional Mexico has achieved global recognition with its latest creative venture, securing the World Best Packaging Award for food packaging. The accolade celebrates the company’s bold collaboration between Flamin’ Hot and Holanda ice cream, a pairing that defies convention and redefines how packaging can communicate sensory innovation.

The challenge was formidable: how to translate the unexpected fusion of fiery spice and creamy indulgence into a design that instantly conveyed both novelty and appeal. The solution lay in a visual language that balanced duality. At its heart, the packaging presents a popsicle infused with a spicy kick, a central image that immediately intrigues and invites exploration. Surrounding this focal point, the palette bursts with the vibrant reds and oranges synonymous with Flamin’ Hot, contrasted against cooler tones that evoke the refreshing qualities of ice cream.

This interplay of colour and imagery creates a dynamic tension, signalling freshness while delivering an intense sensorial charge. The design does not merely decorate; it narrates. Flames, rendered in stylised graphic form, wrap around the packaging, symbolising the heat effect in a powerful yet controlled manner. These flames are not chaotic but purposeful, embodying the provocative spirit of the product while maintaining visual clarity.

At the point of sale, the packaging achieves its most critical function: it stands out. In a crowded marketplace where consumers are bombarded with choices, the Flamin’ Hot x Holanda design sparks immediate curiosity. Its boldness appeals to adventurous fans of Flamin’ Hot, while its playful nod to ice cream reassures loyal Holanda consumers. In this way, the packaging bridges two distinct audiences, uniting them through a shared desire for new experiences.

The award underscores PepsiCo’s mastery of packaging as a storytelling medium. By effectively connecting with consumers on both emotional and sensory levels, the design elevates the product beyond its physical form. It becomes a symbol of innovation, a testament to how unexpected combinations can be made tangible through thoughtful design.

Strategically, the recognition also highlights Mexico’s role as a hub of creative experimentation within PepsiCo’s global portfolio. The collaboration demonstrates how local insights—understanding the cultural resonance of spice and the universal appeal of ice cream—can be transformed into a design that resonates internationally.

Winning the World Best Packaging Award is not simply a triumph of aesthetics; it is proof of the power of design to shape perception and drive engagement. For PepsiCo Internacional Mexico, the accolade validates its commitment to pushing boundaries and crafting experiences that delight, surprise, and connect.

As the product rolls out, consumers will encounter more than just a popsicle. They will discover a visual and sensory journey, one that begins with curiosity at the shelf and culminates in the provocative pleasure of tasting a frozen treat with a fiery twist.
