JioHotstar has entered the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), bringing Indian Originals, films, reality shows and television programmes to regional audiences through the STARZPLAY app and website. The launch was marked by the JioHotstar Big Bang illuminating Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, showcasing the global appeal of Indian entertainment.

JioHotstar has announced its entry into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), taking its diverse catalogue of Indian entertainment to a wider international audience.

Available as a dedicated streaming destination within the STARZPLAY app and website, the service offers Indian Originals, films, reality franchises and popular television programmes across multiple languages.

The move comes as Indian films, television shows and digital productions attract viewers beyond the country’s borders. The Middle East, with its sizeable Indian diaspora and growing engagement with Indian popular culture, presents an important market for streaming services seeking to connect with audiences across cultures.

For JioHotstar, the initiative is about bringing together the breadth of Indian storytelling, its linguistic diversity and the cultural moments that resonate with viewers. The catalogue spans entertainment formats designed to appeal to different tastes, from original productions and films to reality shows and television programming.

The partnership with STARZPLAY gives JioHotstar a dedicated presence within an established streaming platform in the region, allowing viewers to access its Indian content through the STARZPLAY app and website.

To mark the launch, the JioHotstar Big Bang illuminated Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks. The spectacle placed Indian entertainment on a prominent global stage, underscoring the industry’s growing international ambitions.

Streaming platforms have made it easier for content produced in India to reach viewers across geographical and linguistic boundaries. For Indian entertainment companies, this creates opportunities to strengthen connections with diaspora communities while introducing the country’s stories and creative formats to new audiences.

However, success in the MENA market will depend on more than visibility. A compelling content catalogue, an understanding of regional viewing preferences and the ability to retain audiences will be crucial in a competitive streaming landscape.

The Burj Khalifa illumination offered a high-profile introduction to JioHotstar’s new market. The next challenge will be to turn that attention into sustained viewership and establish Indian entertainment as a regular part of audiences’ streaming choices across the region.
