Mumbai’s oldest tabloid Mid-Day celebrated its 47th anniversary with a bumper edition packed in a commemorative bag. The special issue gestured Mumbai-centric stories, including the rise of social media heritage platform Mumbai Heritage, a proposed suburban railway station for BKC, and Tukaram Mundhe’s candid interview on his role in public service.

Mumbai’s oldest tabloid, Mid-Day, has reached another milestone, celebrating 47 years of chronicling the city’s pulse with a special bumper edition. True to tradition, the anniversary issue comes in a commemorative bag, inviting readers to pick up a copy and immerse themselves in stories that capture the essence of Mumbai.

The edition is rich with Mumbai-specific specials, reflecting the publication’s enduring commitment to the city it serves. Among the highlights is the story of Mumbai Heritage, a social media sensation that has captivated audiences by bringing the city’s architectural and cultural legacy into the digital age. By showcasing forgotten corners, historic landmarks, and everyday urban narratives, the platform has become a vital archive of collective memory, resonating with younger generations who seek to connect with their roots.

Another feature explores the ambitious proposal for a suburban railway station at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), put forward by Viresh Narkar. The plan, which has drawn attention from urban planners and commuters alike, promises to ease congestion and improve connectivity in one of Mumbai’s busiest business districts. The idea underscores the city’s constant evolution, balancing heritage with modern infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population.

Adding to the edition’s depth is an exclusive interview with Tukaram Mundhe, a senior bureaucrat known for his forthright approach to governance. In his candid conversation, Mundhe insists he is simply doing his job, a statement that reflects his pragmatic outlook and dedication to public service. His remarks offer readers a glimpse into the challenges and responsibilities of administration in a city as complex as Mumbai.

Together, these features embody Mid-Day’s enduring role as a chronicler of Mumbai’s stories — from its heritage and infrastructure to its people and their voices. For nearly five decades, the tabloid has been more than just a newspaper; it has been a mirror to the city’s triumphs, struggles, and transformations.

As Mid-Day celebrated its 47th year, the bumper edition stands as a testament to its legacy and relevance. By blending nostalgia with forward-looking narratives, the publication continues to reaffirm its place in Mumbai’s media landscape, offering readers not just news, but a deeper connection to the city they call home.
