RUDA, an Italian olive oil brand by Yai Salinas, reimagines Mediterranean heritage with bold contemporary disruption. Born from an abandoned client commission, it was rebuilt with a new name, logo, palette, and AI-driven visuals. RUDA embodies resilience, creative autonomy, and the fusion of tradition with radical modern identity.
RUDA, an Italian olive oil brand conceived by designer Yai Salinas, embodies a striking blend of Mediterranean heritage and bold contemporary disruption. What began as a commissioned project for a real client evolved into a deeply personal creative journey, culminating in a fully reimagined identity that challenges conventions of branding and storytelling.

The project’s origins were rooted in a traditional commission: Yai and her team developed a direction that was approved and prepared for final delivery. Yet, at the eleventh hour, the client requested a complete change of course, favouring ideas they had generated themselves. The team explored this alternative path, but ultimately the project was abandoned. Rather than let the work dissolve into obscurity, Yai chose to reclaim it, transforming the abandoned commission into RUDA—a brand that exists as both a creative experiment and a statement of independence.
In this final iteration, Yai rebuilt the brand from the ground up. RUDA was given a new name, a fresh logo, and a distinctive colour palette, all underpinned by a stronger creative direction. Every visual element, from campaign imagery to illustrations, was crafted using artificial intelligence, guided by Yai’s full creative and art direction. This deliberate use of AI was not a shortcut but a conscious decision to explore how technology can expand the boundaries of design, enabling a fusion of heritage and modernity that feels both authentic and radical.
RUDA’s aesthetic is rooted in Mediterranean tradition yet refuses to be confined by it. The olive oil category often leans heavily on pastoral imagery and rustic cues, but RUDA disrupts this expectation with bold, contemporary visuals that speak to a new generation of consumers. The brand’s identity is not nostalgic but forward-looking, reframing olive oil as a lifestyle product with cultural resonance beyond the kitchen.
The project also reflects the resilience and autonomy of creative practice. By reclaiming the abandoned commission, Yai demonstrates how designers can assert ownership over their work, transforming setbacks into opportunities for innovation. RUDA is not simply a brand but a manifesto: tradition disrupted, heritage reinterpreted, and identity rebuilt with conviction.
In its final form, RUDA stands as a testament to the power of creative direction and the possibilities unlocked by AI. It is a brand that honours the Mediterranean spirit while embracing disruption, proving that even in the face of rejection, design can flourish when guided by vision and determination.
