SHAJU S. ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF ULCCS

Shaju S. has been unanimously elected Chairman of Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS) following the demise of former Chairman Remeshan Palery. With decades of service and deep family ties to the cooperative, Shaju pledges to uphold ULCCS’s legacy while expanding its reach into new sectors and global markets.

Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS), one of India’s most storied worker-owned cooperatives, entered a new chapter today as Shaju S. assumed office as Chairman. His election was unanimous, decided at a Board of Directors meeting presided over by Smt. Rajini M., the officer authorised by the Kerala State Co-operative Election Commission. Alongside this transition, Chief General Manager K. Praveen Kumar has been entrusted with the role of Managing Director.  

The Board paid heartfelt tribute to the late Chairman Shri. Remeshan Palery, whose leadership was instrumental in shaping ULCCS’s modern identity. Shaju, who worked closely with Palery, pledged to carry forward his vision and legacy. His journey with ULCCS began in 1997 as a clerk, before rising to serve as Secretary and Managing Director for 17 years. This long association has given him a deep understanding of the cooperative’s evolution and challenges.  

Shaju’s leadership has already been marked by active involvement in the creation and growth of ULCCS’s associate institutions, including UL Cyber Park, UL Technology Solutions (ULTS), U-Sphere, UL Actant and UL Nshore. His directorship across these ventures has provided him with valuable insights into their operations and potential for expansion.  

His appointment also carries symbolic weight, rooted in family legacy. Shaju’s grandfather S. Kanaran and great grandfather M. Pokkayi were among the founding members of ULCCS a century ago, while his father S. Kumaran served as a worker, leader and later Director. This lineage underscores his commitment to the cooperative’s values of labour solidarity and collective progress.  

Looking ahead, Shaju has outlined an ambitious vision for ULCCS. The cooperative will strengthen its presence in construction and infrastructure, expand operations beyond Kerala and India, and establish an international footprint. New opportunities in IT, real estate, tourism and hospitality are also on the horizon. He emphasised that adoption of new technologies, operational efficiency, employment generation, financial sustainability and member welfare will remain central priorities.  

“While remaining firmly rooted in the values of labour cooperation, my vision is to build ULCCS into a stronger, sustainable and globally recognised institution,” Shaju stated, pledging to honour the dreams and legacy of Shri. Remeshan Palery. His leadership marks both continuity and renewal, as ULCCS prepares to scale new heights in cooperative enterprise.
