At Bangalore International Airport’s Terminal 2, artist Saravanan Parasuraman’s Structure installation symbolises interconnectedness and resilience. Inspired by seed germination and the fibres of a jackfruit, the mild steel artwork reflects the unseen threads that sustain life, inviting travellers to pause and contemplate growth, balance, and connection amid departure.

Travellers passing through Bangalore International Airport’s Terminal 2 are greeted by a striking new art installation titled Structure. Created by artist Saravanan Parasuraman, the work is a meditation on the interconnectedness of life, using the metaphor of seed germination to explore how growth emerges from connection.

Saravanan explains that in any fundamental structure—whether a tree, a building, the human body, or even the Constitution—various parts are interrelated to aid survival. He draws a parallel with the human brain, which constantly arranges and organises emotions based on circumstances, enabling resilience and adaptation.

Visually, Structure evokes the splitting open of a jackfruit. Straight rods stand in for the fibres that bind the fruit together, symbolising the checks and balances that hold, resist, and ultimately give shape to existence. The installation, crafted from mild steel treated with rust, measures 3.6 by 3.9 by 3.5 feet. Its earthy texture and organic form invite travellers to pause amid the bustle of departures, reflecting on the unseen threads that sustain life.

Installed in the Domestic Departures section of Terminal 2, the artwork is more than a decorative piece. It is a reminder of resilience, connection, and the delicate balance that underpins survival. By situating this contemplative work in a space defined by movement and transition, Saravanan encourages viewers to carry forward a sense of interconnectedness into their journeys.
