Hyundai Motor India has named Gaurav Mathur as Vice-President and Head of Corporate Planning. With over 22 years at Maruti Suzuki, including leadership in EV development, Mathur will drive corporate planning, transformation, export expansion, and innovation initiatives, positioning Hyundai for sustainable growth and future mobility leadership.

Hyundai Motor India has announced the appointment of Gaurav Mathur as Vice-President and Head of Corporate Planning, a move that underscores the company’s ambition to strengthen its strategic capabilities in India and beyond. Mathur, who joins Hyundai after an extensive career at Maruti Suzuki India, will oversee corporate planning, business transformation, export expansion, future mobility business and innovation initiatives.

Mathur’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Hyundai, as the automaker intensifies its focus on sustainable growth and future-ready capabilities. In his statement, Mathur emphasised that India is emerging as a global hub for innovation and manufacturing, and highlighted his commitment to building “future-ready capabilities” that will support Hyundai’s long-term vision.

During his 22-year tenure at Maruti Suzuki, Mathur held multiple leadership roles across product planning, innovation and electric vehicle development. Most recently, he served as Vice-President – EV Development from April 2024 to April 2026, where he led electric vehicle programmes from concept to launch. His earlier roles included Deputy General Manager, where he was instrumental in setting up an innovation lab within Maruti Suzuki’s R&D operations, as well as positions across product planning and innovation functions.

Mathur’s academic credentials further reinforce his leadership profile. He completed the Stanford LEAD Professional Certificate programme in leadership at Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2022, focusing on leadership, strategy, finance, analytical thinking and design-led innovation. He also holds an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from the Management Development Institute, with an international module completed at ESCP Business School across Turin, Paris and Berlin.

Hyundai Motor India’s decision to bring Mathur on board reflects its strategic intent to leverage his expertise in electric mobility and innovation. With India’s automotive industry undergoing rapid transformation, particularly in electrification and global export opportunities, Mathur’s appointment is expected to accelerate Hyundai’s efforts in aligning corporate planning with future mobility trends.

As Hyundai continues to expand its footprint in India and strengthen its export base, Mathur’s leadership will be central to driving business transformation and innovation. His experience in electric vehicle development and strategic planning positions him as a key figure in Hyundai’s journey towards sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
