Pawan Kumar Marella has joined Max Healthcare as Chief Experience and Brand Officer after a distinguished 23-year career at Unilever. Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Marella described the role as a new learning journey, even revisiting high school biology and chemistry, as he transitions from FMCG leadership to healthcare branding.

Pawan Kumar Marella has taken on a new chapter in his career, joining Max Healthcare as Chief Experience and Brand Officer. The announcement was made by Marella himself in a LinkedIn post, where he reflected on the transition from his long-standing career in fast-moving consumer goods to the healthcare sector.

“I have joined Max Healthcare as their Chief Experience and Brand Officer. After 23 years at Unilever, this is a very new area for me, and I am starting by listening and learning, and yes, that includes re-reading all high school biology and chemistry books for starters!” Marella wrote, signalling both humility and curiosity as he embarks on this new professional journey.

Marella’s career at Unilever spanned more than two decades, during which he held senior leadership roles including Vice President, Strategic Growth Initiatives, Marketing Capabilities, and Innovation Excellence. His tenure at the FMCG giant saw him contribute to brand-building, innovation, and strategic growth across diverse categories, cementing his reputation as a seasoned marketing leader.

The move to Max Healthcare marks a significant shift, as Marella brings his expertise in consumer insight, brand strategy, and innovation into the healthcare space. His appointment underscores the growing importance of patient experience and brand positioning in the healthcare industry, where trust, empathy, and engagement are increasingly central to organisational success.

By combining his FMCG background with a fresh perspective on healthcare, Marella is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping Max Healthcare’s brand narrative and enhancing patient-centric experiences. His willingness to “listen and learn” reflects a leadership style attuned to the complexities of healthcare, while his track record at Unilever suggests he will bring both strategic rigour and creative energy to the role.

Marella’s appointment highlights the broader trend of cross-industry leadership transitions, where seasoned executives from consumer goods and marketing are increasingly sought after in sectors like healthcare, which are undergoing rapid transformation. For Max Healthcare, his arrival signals a commitment to strengthening its brand and experience strategy at a time when patient expectations and healthcare delivery models are evolving rapidly.
