Ashok Leyland Ltd.’s Deputy CEO, K.M. Balaji, has been appointed to the Board of Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director. With over three decades of financial and corporate management expertise, his appointment strengthens the company’s leadership amid evolving industry challenges and opportunities.

K.M. Balaji, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ashok Leyland Ltd., has been appointed to the Board of Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director, bringing with him more than 32 years of experience in finance and corporate management. His career, which began as an internal audit executive at Ashok Leyland, has spanned a wide spectrum of financial and business functions, equipping him with deep institutional knowledge and industry expertise.  

Balaji’s professional journey has seen him take on responsibilities across treasury management, investor relations, pricing, product cost engineering, budgeting and budgetary controls, management information systems, costing and business finance. His portfolio also extends to indirect taxation, sales finance, product development finance, and centralised receivables and payables, reflecting his comprehensive grasp of the financial and operational dimensions of a large-scale automotive enterprise.  

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Lanka Ashok Leyland, as the commercial vehicle industry navigates shifting market conditions, technological transformation, and evolving customer expectations. Balaji’s extensive financial acumen and operational oversight are expected to bolster the Board’s collective expertise, ensuring the company remains agile and strategically positioned in a competitive sector.  

Beyond his financial and operational credentials, Balaji’s leadership experience at Ashok Leyland has provided him with valuable exposure to international markets and the strategic importance of overseas partnerships. This perspective is particularly relevant to Lanka Ashok Leyland, which plays a crucial role in the group’s presence in Sri Lanka and the wider South Asian region.
