The Busker Irish Whiskey has deepened its investment in Japan with ‘The Busker Triple Sessions’, a culturally-led music platform blending whiskey and live performance. Created by Curious Nation for Disaronno International, the campaign collaborates with local artists to build authentic connections, translating the brand’s triple cask story into immersive experiences.
The Busker Irish Whiskey, produced at Royal Oak Distillery in County Carlow, Ireland, has taken a bold step into Japan’s thriving music and whiskey culture with the launch of ‘The Busker Triple Sessions’. Conceived as a culturally-led platform, the initiative brings the brand’s proposition, ‘The Whiskey Made for Music’, to life through live performance, immersive experiences and a content-first approach.
Developed by independent Australia and New Zealand brand activation agency Curious Nation for Disaronno International, in partnership with Japanese distributor Whisk-e, the campaign was designed specifically for the Japanese market. Rather than importing global talent, The Busker Triple Sessions taps into Japan’s vibrant live music scene, collaborating with local artists and venues to create authenticity that resonates with consumers.
Curious Nation led the strategy, creative development, event design and production, content creation, social media ecosystem and end-to-end campaign delivery in Japan, while Massive Music partnered on talent and licensing engagement. Gareth Brock, head of strategy ANZ at Curious Nation, explained: “The strongest brand experiences don’t interrupt culture, they contribute to it. Rather than simply sponsoring music, we wanted to create something that gives artists a stage to tell their stories while naturally expressing what makes The Busker distinctive.”
The campaign launched at Tokyo’s renowned Music Bar Cave in Shibuya with Japanese singer-songwriter luvis, followed by a second session featuring TENDRE, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Taro Kawahara. The final event is scheduled for Osaka in October. Each performance was structured around three musical chapters inspired by The Busker’s triple cask credentials: ‘Origins’, celebrating a formative influence; ‘Now’, showcasing a defining song; and ‘Blend’, a new interpretation that fuses past and present.
Beyond the stage, the sessions doubled as content curation opportunities, generating artist interviews and behind-the-scenes storytelling across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and The Busker’s owned channels. Venues were transformed into immersive brand spaces with bespoke lighting, branded glassware and signature Busker highballs, designed to feel like intimate music discovery rather than a conventional branded event. On-premise activity included promotional game-cards linked to highball purchases and instant win prizes, while off-premise promotions extended the campaign through retail activations, limited edition packaging and Busker-branded speakers.
By blending whiskey culture with Japan’s live music scene, The Busker has created a platform that feels authentic to both the brand and the local audience. The Triple Sessions not only build awareness and trial but also lay the foundation for long-term consumer affinity, positioning The Busker as a whiskey that contributes to culture rather than simply borrowing from it.
