TONY MACARONI TO LAUNCH IN INDIA IN 2026 AFTER STRATEGIC FRANCHISE TIE‑UP

Scotland’s Viva Italia Group will bring its Tony Macaroni casual‑dining brand to India in 2026 through a strategic partnership with FranGlobal, the international arm of Franchise India. The move aims to tap India’s growing appetite for Italian food, using franchising expertise to adapt menus and formats for local Indian tastes.

Scotland’s Tony Macaroni, a familiar name on British high streets for its approachable Italian fare, is preparing to cross continents after Viva Italia Group announced plans to enter the Indian market in 2026. The expansion follows a strategic partnership with FranGlobal, the international division of Franchise India, signalling a franchising route to growth rather than company‑owned roll‑out.

The deal pairs Viva Italia’s operational experience and brand identity with FranGlobal’s local market knowledge and franchise development capabilities. For Viva Italia, which operates a portfolio of Italian casual‑dining concepts from its base in Scotland, India represents a vast and varied opportunity: a young population, rising urban incomes and an expanding middle class that has shown a steady appetite for international cuisines.

Industry observers say the timing is sensible. India’s dining scene has matured rapidly in recent years, with consumers increasingly seeking casual, affordable experiences that blend authenticity with local sensibilities. Tony Macaroni’s casual format — pizza, pasta and simple Italian staples served in relaxed surroundings — could fit neatly into that niche, provided the brand adapts to local tastes and price points.

FranGlobal brings to the table a track record of helping international brands navigate India’s complex regulatory, supply‑chain and real‑estate landscape. Its role will likely include identifying franchise partners, advising on site selection, and helping tailor the menu and service model to regional preferences. Franchising is a common route for global brands entering India because it allows rapid scaling while leveraging local entrepreneurs’ market knowledge.

Viva Italia has not disclosed the number of outlets planned for the first phase, nor the cities targeted, but market analysts expect initial launches to focus on major metropolitan areas where international dining formats are well established. Mumbai, Delhi‑NCR, Bengaluru and Chennai are often the first ports of call for western casual‑dining brands, offering a mix of affluent diners, expatriate communities and established foodservice infrastructure.

Success will depend on several factors: pricing that reflects local purchasing power, supply chains that ensure consistent ingredient quality, and a menu strategy that balances signature dishes with regionally inspired options. Many international chains have found that modest localisation — introducing vegetarian options, adjusting spice levels, and offering value meals — can be decisive.

Competition will be fierce. India already hosts a wide range of Italian concepts, from independent trattorias to international chains, and consumers are discerning. Yet the market’s scale means there is room for new entrants that can offer a clear proposition and strong execution.

For Viva Italia, the partnership with FranGlobal is a pragmatic step towards internationalisation. For Indian diners, the arrival of Tony Macaroni will add another choice to an increasingly cosmopolitan culinary landscape. As the 2026 launch approaches, attention will turn to the first outlets and how the brand translates its Scottish‑born identity into an Indian context.
