Amrut Distilleries has unveiled CaféX, a pioneering Indian single malt whisky matured in coffee-cask seasoned barrels, marking the country’s first such expression. Developed in collaboration with Harley Estate in Sakaleshpur, the limited-edition release bridges Karnataka’s whisky-making and coffee cultivation traditions, offering just 2,400 bottles worldwide.
The Harley Estate, established in 1864 and renowned for specialty coffee, provided beans to season the casks, creating a bold and complex maturation style that departs from traditional oak, wine, or sherry influences. Estate owner Purnesh described the partnership as “bridging two worlds of Indian craft,” noting that ageing coffee in Amrut’s award-winning whisky barrels produced a distinctive flavour profile.
Amrut has long embraced experimentation, with earlier innovations such as Naarangi, Spectrum and Herald. CaféX continues this trajectory, reflecting the company’s ambition to push boundaries in single malt production while celebrating regional heritage. The release underscores Amrut’s role as India’s original single malt pioneer, blending craftsmanship with creative maturation techniques to deliver a rare, globally exclusive expression.
