BENTLEY NAMES FIRST ELECTRIC SUV: THE TORCAL

Bentley has unveiled the name of its first fully electric SUV, the Torcal, inspired by Spain’s El Torcal de Antequera landscape. Launching globally on 23 September 2026, the Torcal promises over 300 miles of range, advanced charging, and Bentley’s hallmark craftsmanship, marking a pivotal new chapter in the marque’s future.

Bentley has officially revealed the name of its first fully electric model, and it is one that carries both geographical resonance and symbolic intent. The Torcal, inspired by El Torcal de Antequera in southern Spain, takes its cue from a dramatic limestone landscape shaped over millions of years. For Bentley, the choice is deliberate: a metaphor for reshaping its own destiny as it enters the electric era.

The Torcal will make its global debut on 23 September 2026, a date that will mark Bentley’s formal expansion into the world of luxury electric SUVs. Joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga, the Torcal is positioned as a more compact, urban-focused alternative to the Bentayga, designed to appeal to a new generation of buyers who demand sustainability without sacrificing refinement.

Reports suggest the Torcal will deliver more than 300 miles of range, or roughly 480 kilometres, supported by advanced high-speed charging technology. An 800-volt electrical architecture has been widely discussed, though Bentley has yet to confirm final specifications. If true, it would place the Torcal among the most technically advanced vehicles in its segment, offering faster charging times and improved efficiency.

Yet Bentley’s ambitions go beyond numbers. The marque has built its reputation on handcrafted materials, bespoke personalisation and an unwavering commitment to refinement. The Torcal is expected to carry these hallmarks into the electric age, ensuring that the transition to battery power does not dilute the essence of Bentley ownership. Customers can anticipate a cabin rich in artisan detail, with opportunities for customisation that reflect Bentley’s Mulliner heritage.

The bigger story, however, is not simply that Bentley is going electric. It is how Bentley intends to make an EV still feel unmistakably Bentley. In an industry where electric cars are increasingly defined by giant screens, software and minimalist interiors, the Torcal is expected to retain the brand’s traditional strengths: tactile materials, craftsmanship, performance and a highly personalised ownership experience.

For a company with 107 years of history, the Torcal is more than just another SUV launch. It represents a turning point, a statement that Bentley is ready to redefine itself for a new era. As the automotive industry accelerates towards electrification, Bentley’s decision to anchor its first EV in both heritage and innovation is a reminder that tradition and progress can coexist.
