The awards reaffirm the Foundation’s mission to foster ethical, impactful journalism.

The Danish Siddiqui Journalism Awards 2026 have announced their winners, spotlighting journalists whose work exemplifies courage, integrity, and the power of storytelling. This year’s honours reflect the enduring legacy of Danish Siddiqui, the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist whose commitment to truth continues to inspire generations of reporters.

The awards recognised excellence across print, broadcast, digital, and photojournalism, underscoring the diversity of formats through which impactful stories reach audiences. In print, Aiswarya Raj and Dheeraj Mishra of The Indian Express were celebrated for their incisive reporting. Abhinav Goel of BBC News was honoured in broadcast, while Zeeshan A Latif, contributing to The Washington Post, received recognition for his compelling narratives.

Digital platforms also shone brightly, with Aparna Ganesan’s The Migration Story earning distinction in broadcast, and Apoorva Mandhani of ThePrint recognised in digital print. Jury special mentions were awarded to Avadhesh Akodia of Dainik Bhaskar and Sukanya Shantha of TheWire.in, acknowledging their dedication to stories that demanded attention.

The awards ceremony was more than a celebration of individual achievement; it was a reaffirmation of journalism’s role in society. The Danish Siddiqui Foundation, which organises the awards, emphasised its mission to foster value-based journalism that informs, engages, and inspires. By honouring these journalists, the Foundation highlighted the importance of ethical reporting in an era where truth is often contested.

The Foundation’s work extends beyond recognition. It provides training, resources, and support to journalists, prioritising safety, excellence, and innovation in reporting. Its initiatives aim to advance visual storytelling, nurture journalism education, and strengthen communities through informed dialogue. In doing so, the Foundation seeks to cultivate a socially aware society where journalism serves as a beacon of integrity.

The winners themselves embody this ethos. Their stories—whether exposing systemic issues, amplifying marginalised voices, or documenting human resilience—reflect journalism’s capacity to drive change. Each awardee demonstrated a refusal to look away, a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths, and a commitment to narratives that matter.

The Danish Siddiqui Journalism Awards 2026 thus stand as a testament to the enduring relevance of Siddiqui’s vision. They remind us that journalism, at its best, is not merely about reporting facts but about shaping understanding, fostering empathy, and holding power to account. In celebrating these voices, the Foundation ensures that Siddiqui’s legacy continues to illuminate the path for future generations of journalists.

As the media landscape evolves, the awards reaffirm the timeless values of integrity and courage. They honour not only the winners but also the spirit of journalism itself—an unyielding pursuit of truth in service of society.
