The ready-to-drink cocktail revival has gained fresh momentum with Dillon’s in Ontario, whose gin-based cans feature inventive flavours and striking artwork by Drew Bardana. Supported by IllustrationX’s Karen Kaller, the collaboration has created packaging that disrupts shelves and underscores how design and innovation are reshaping the competitive RTD sector.
The global revival of ready-to-drink mixed cocktails has transformed the beverage industry, with even venerable single malt whiskies now appearing in sleek canned formats. While large distilleries have driven much of this diversification, the sector has become increasingly vibrant thanks to small batch producers such as Dillon’s in Ontario, whose inventive flavour combinations are sparking consumer excitement.

Flavours like Black Cherry with a Touch of Cranberry or Pear, Lime and a Hint of Cucumber may sound intriguing on paper, but Dillon’s has gone further by pairing its gin-based cocktails with striking packaging that demands attention. The cans feature colourful, textured artwork created by illustrator Drew Bardana, whose designs have become central to the brand’s appeal.
Bardana’s collaboration with Dillon’s began in 2021, when he worked with the parent company Mark Anthony Group on other product lines. His distinctive style quickly proved a natural fit when Dillon’s embarked on developing its fruity gin cocktail range. As the line-up expanded to a dozen flavours and continues to grow, Bardana’s artwork has provided a cohesive yet playful identity that sets the brand apart in a crowded marketplace.
Supporting this creative partnership has been Karen Kaller, artist representative with IllustrationX in New York. Kaller has played a key role in guiding the collaboration, ensuring deadlines were met and helping refine the creative direction as Dillon’s portfolio evolved. The result is packaging that not only reflects the fun and freshness of the drinks themselves but also delivers genuine shelf impact.
The rise of small batch distillers like Dillon’s highlights how innovation and design are reshaping the RTD category. While global giants bring scale and distribution, it is often the independent producers who inject originality and cultural flair. Dillon’s has demonstrated that trusting creative specialists to push boundaries can yield packaging that resonates with consumers and elevates the drinking experience.
As competition intensifies, the RTD sector is increasingly defined by the interplay of flavour innovation and visual storytelling. Dillon’s Gin Cocktails exemplify this trend, marrying bold taste profiles with artwork that captures the imagination. In doing so, the brand has carved out a distinctive niche, proving that in the modern beverage landscape, creativity is as essential as craftsmanship.
