GAP TURNS ITS ICONIC WARDROBE INTO THE NEW GAPBAG COLLECTION

Gap is expanding beyond apparel with the launch of GapBag, a debut accessories collection designed by Reed Krakoff. Drawing on five-pocket denim, signature hardware and the Arch Logo Hoodie, the range transforms familiar brand codes into functional everyday bags, combining Gap’s American heritage with contemporary design and accessible pricing.

Gap is introducing a new way for consumers to experience one of its most recognisable design languages with the launch of the GapBag Collection, its debut handbag range. Designed by Reed Krakoff, Gap Inc.’s Executive Director of Accessories, the collection transforms familiar elements of Gap’s wardrobe into functional accessories, extending the brand’s identity beyond clothing.

The Fall 2026 collection takes inspiration from some of Gap’s most enduring signatures, including five-pocket denim, jean stitching, belt loops, metal hardware and the classic Arch Logo Hoodie. Rather than simply placing a logo on conventional handbags, Krakoff has translated these details into the construction, materials and functionality of the bags, creating accessories intended to feel like natural extensions of Gap’s everyday wardrobe.

At the heart of the collection is the Five-Pocket Tote, which directly reinterprets the construction of Gap’s iconic five-pocket jeans. Available in multiple sizes and silhouettes, including tote, satchel and crossbody formats, it combines denim washes with canvas and faux-suede options. Its design incorporates familiar jean-inspired stitching, belt loops and signature hardware, bringing the language of denim into a new category.

Another distinctive piece is the Hoodie Tote, which translates the character of Gap’s classic Arch Logo Hoodie into a handbag. Fleece construction, hoodie-inspired ribbing and a drawstring closure give the design a tactile, relaxed quality, while a neoprene lining adds structure and practicality. The collection also includes the Favorite Tote, Crescent Bag and Shoulder Bag, broadening the assortment across different everyday needs and proportions.

Krakoff’s approach reflects a wider shift in fashion towards heritage-led accessories, where recognisable brand codes become products in their own right. His design philosophy for GapBag centres on the relationship between style, utility and everyday function, drawing heavily from Gap’s archives while giving familiar references a contemporary expression.

Accessibility is another important part of the proposition. The core collection ranges from $29.95 to $148, with a limited-edition patchwork denim Five-Pocket Tote priced at $498. Alongside the bags, Gap is introducing charms, keychains, scarves and belts, giving consumers opportunities to personalise their accessories.

The launch also places GapBag firmly within the fashion calendar. Gap is staging an immersive pop-up at Rockefeller Center’s Channel Gardens in New York from 10 to 13 September during New York Fashion Week, featuring the Five-Pocket Tote and on-site customisation.

With GapBag, the brand is betting that its strongest fashion assets are not limited to jeans and sweatshirts. By transforming decades-old design signatures into contemporary accessories, Gap is turning its heritage into a new everyday experience—one bag at a time.
