Honda has appointed Toshiyuki Yanagisawa as President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd, effective 1 October 2026. Currently leading Honda’s India Strategic Development Office, Yanagisawa will spearhead the automaker’s India-focused growth strategy, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, consumer engagement and long-term expansion in the market.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a pivotal leadership change in its Indian operations, naming Toshiyuki Yanagisawa as President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) with effect from 1 October 2026. Yanagisawa, who presently heads Honda’s India Strategic Development Office, will take charge at a time when the automaker is intensifying its focus on India as a strategic growth market.

The appointment underscores Honda’s ambition to strengthen its presence in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive landscapes. India, with its rapidly evolving consumer base and increasing demand for mobility solutions, has become a critical arena for global automakers. Yanagisawa’s elevation signals Honda’s intent to align its operations more closely with local market needs while leveraging global expertise.

Yanagisawa brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong understanding of India’s automotive ecosystem, having previously worked with HCIL during earlier assignments. His familiarity with consumer behaviour, regulatory frameworks and competitive dynamics is expected to provide Honda with sharper insights as it navigates challenges and opportunities in the Indian market.

Honda’s India-focused growth strategy is centred on innovation, sustainability and customer-centricity. The company has been investing in new technologies, expanding its product portfolio and enhancing its service network to meet the changing expectations of Indian consumers. Yanagisawa’s leadership is anticipated to accelerate these initiatives, particularly in areas such as electrification, digital integration and mobility solutions tailored for urban and semi-urban markets.

The leadership transition also reflects Honda’s broader strategy of integrating traditional automotive strengths with digital innovation. By placing Yanagisawa at the helm, Honda aims to reinforce its dual focus on manufacturing excellence and future-ready solutions, ensuring that its India operations remain competitive and resilient in a rapidly transforming industry.

Industry observers note that Honda’s renewed emphasis on India comes at a time when the market is witnessing significant shifts, from regulatory changes to consumer preferences for sustainable and connected vehicles. Yanagisawa’s appointment is seen as a move to harness these trends and position Honda as a forward-looking player in the country’s automotive sector.

As Honda embarks on this new chapter, Yanagisawa’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the company’s trajectory in India. His appointment not only marks a continuation of Honda’s commitment to the market but also signals a strategic push towards innovation, integration and long-term growth.
