Isuzu Motors India has appointed Takeshi Hirano as Deputy Managing Director, succeeding Toru Kishimoto, who will move to a new role at the parent company in Japan. Hirano brings more than two decades of global experience in distribution and marketing and previously served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing in India.

Japanese automaker Isuzu Motors India has announced a key leadership transition with the appointment of Takeshi Hirano as its new Deputy Managing Director, signalling a strategic move to strengthen the company’s management structure as it expands its footprint in the country.

The appointment, effective from March 2026, sees Hirano succeed Toru Kishimoto, who will move to a new assignment at the parent organisation in Japan. The leadership change reflects the company’s ongoing business plans and its intention to reinforce operational leadership in one of its important global markets.

Hirano joins the Indian subsidiary from Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, where he was associated with the Isuzu Business Division. With more than two decades of experience in distribution and marketing across international markets for the Isuzu brand, he brings extensive knowledge of the company’s global operations and dealer networks.

Over the course of his career, Hirano has held multiple roles across global markets, working closely with both Isuzu Motors Limited and Mitsubishi Corporation. His professional background spans operational oversight, international distribution strategies and market expansion initiatives, positioning him as an experienced executive capable of guiding the company through the evolving dynamics of the Indian automotive sector.

Notably, Hirano is already familiar with the Indian market and the company’s operations in the country. Earlier in his career, he served at Isuzu Motors India as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. During that tenure, he played a key role in laying the commercial groundwork for the brand’s presence in India, contributing to the development of sales strategies and dealer networks that helped the company establish itself in the domestic market.

His return comes at a time when Isuzu Motors India is working to deepen its presence in the country’s automotive landscape, particularly in the pickup truck and commercial vehicle segments. The company has steadily expanded its portfolio and dealership network while strengthening its manufacturing capabilities in India.

Headquartered in Chennai, the company operates a manufacturing facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, where vehicle production began in 2016. The plant has since been expanded to include additional manufacturing capabilities such as a press shop and engine assembly facility, supporting both domestic demand and export operations.

Isuzu Motors India currently markets a range of vehicles in the personal and commercial segments. Its line-up includes lifestyle pickup models such as the D-MAX V-Cross and Hi-Lander, along with the MU-X sport utility vehicle and several variants of the D-MAX pickup designed for commercial use. These models have helped the company carve out a niche in India’s utility vehicle market, where pickups are gradually gaining traction among both business and lifestyle buyers.

The company’s Indian operations have also gained prominence as a global export hub. Vehicles manufactured at the Sri City facility are shipped to several overseas markets, and the company has recently emerged as one of the country’s leading exporters of commercial vehicles, according to industry data.

Industry observers view the leadership transition as part of a broader strategy by the Japanese manufacturer to reinforce its management capabilities in India, a market that continues to attract global automotive investments due to its growth potential and expanding infrastructure.

By appointing an executive with prior experience in the Indian market and deep familiarity with the company’s global operations, Isuzu appears to be aiming for continuity while positioning itself for the next phase of growth. Hirano’s background in distribution and marketing is expected to play a significant role as the company seeks to strengthen its brand presence, expand its dealer network and build on its export success from India.

As Hirano steps into the Deputy Managing Director role, he will work closely with the company’s leadership team to drive strategic initiatives and oversee key operational functions, helping steer Isuzu Motors India through an increasingly competitive automotive environment while supporting the brand’s long-term ambitions in the region.
