ŠKODA UK TURNS ACCENT MARK INTO PLAYFUL CAMPAIGN DEVICE

Škoda UK and Leo UK’s new campaign, ‘Šhhhkoda’, transforms the háček accent into a playful creative device across TV, OOH, social and PR. Rooted in the joy of pronunciation, the campaign introduces “Šmart”, “Špacious” and “Štylish”, extending into station takeovers, cinema, ITV sponsorship and sporting events with a distinctive “Šhhhh”.

Leo UK and Škoda UK have unveiled a new campaign, ‘Šhhhkoda’, which places the brand’s distinctive háček centre stage. Building on Škoda’s playful brand platform, the initiative transforms the accent above the Š into a creative device across TV, OOH, print, social, PR, influencer activity and partnerships.

The campaign is rooted in a simple observation: when people hear the correct pronunciation of Škoda, they smile, repeat it and draw out the “shhhhh”. This insight drives the 60‑second hero film, which follows the chain reaction as the pronunciation passes from person to person. Supported by shorter cutdowns, the film introduces playful twists such as “Šmart”, “Špacious” and “Štylish”, which reappear throughout the wider campaign.

On social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, feature‑led films and trend‑inspired edits highlight Škoda’s clever practical features, storage solutions, spaciousness and design. Large‑scale OOH executions exaggerate the accent mark with an extended “Šhhhhhhhhhh”, transforming key messages into “Šhhmart”, “Šhhpacious” and “Šhhtylish”. The campaign also includes a major Waterloo station takeover, Elizabeth Line escalator ribbon placements and digital installations, where “Šhhhh” stretches across screens and station environments. Media planning and buying was handled by PHD.

The device extends into moments where silence is expected. From cinema screenings to Škoda’s sponsorship of ITV Showcase Drama, and even in sporting stands, the campaign uses the elongated “Šhhhh” to hush audiences while drawing attention to the brand. Bespoke ITVX idents already feature the idea, with linear TV idents due later this year.

By turning a linguistic detail into a creative platform, Škoda UK and Leo UK have crafted a campaign that is both distinctive and memorable. The háček becomes more than a mark of pronunciation; it is reimagined as a symbol of playfulness, confidence and brand personality, ensuring Škoda’s voice resonates across environments and audiences.
