Sri Lanka is advancing its ambition to become a regional business and lifestyle hub through the launch of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) designed to attract high-quality investment and strengthen the nation’s long-term competitiveness. Positioned as a gateway to South Asia, the SEZ offers investors a compelling mix of regulatory certainty, competitive operating costs, strategic connectivity, and internationally aligned governance standards.

These advantages are expected to generate employment, facilitate access to regional and global markets, and support Sri Lanka’s broader economic growth trajectory. The initiative reflects the country’s determination to transform its investment landscape and align with global best practices, ensuring that investors benefit from a transparent and predictable environment.

The Colombo Port City Economic Commission (CPCEC), working closely with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating investment and streamlining regulatory processes. Together, they aim to nurture high-value, export-oriented and service-driven industries that align with Sri Lanka’s long-term development priorities.

By combining modern governance frameworks with competitive business conditions, the SEZ is positioned to attract diverse industries ranging from advanced manufacturing to digital services. The initiative underscores Sri Lanka’s strategic intent to leverage its geographic location, enhance investor confidence, and secure a stronger role in regional and global trade networks.

Sri Lanka’s new Special Economic Zone positions the nation as a gateway to South Asia, offering investors regulatory certainty, competitive costs, and global governance standards. Backed by CPCEC and the Ministry of Finance, the SEZ aims to attract high-value industries, generate jobs, and strengthen Sri Lanka’s long-term economic competitiveness.
