Telstra has unveiled a new campaign showcasing its Satellite Messaging technology through three imaginative stop-motion films. Created with Bear Meets Eagle On Fire and +61, the work highlights how Australians can stay connected beyond mobile coverage, using charming visuals and integrated media to demonstrate a uniquely available telecom capability.

Telstra has launched a distinctive new campaign demonstrating how Australians can stay connected even in the most remote corners of the country, spotlighting its Satellite Messaging technology in collaboration with creative agency Bear Meets Eagle On Fire and +61.

The campaign centres on three intricately crafted stop-motion films directed by Catherine Prowse of Passion Animation, each set in isolated environments where traditional mobile coverage would typically falter. Through inventive storytelling and carefully engineered rotating sets, the films transition seamlessly from farmland, desert and mountainous terrains into outer space, visually capturing the journey of a message sent via satellite.

At the heart of the campaign is a simple but powerful proposition: eligible Telstra customers can send and receive text messages even when they are beyond the reach of mobile networks. Telstra currently stands as the only telecommunications provider in Australia offering this capability, positioning the brand at the forefront of connectivity innovation in challenging environments.

The creative execution leans heavily on the tactile charm of stop-motion animation, with each frame reflecting meticulous craftsmanship. The rotating sets, which pivot dramatically from earthly landscapes to the vastness of space, serve as both a narrative device and a visual metaphor for bridging distances. This blend of artistry and engineering underlines the campaign’s intent to make complex technology feel accessible and human.

Alita McMenamin, Telstra’s Head of Brand and Marketing Communications, emphasised the clarity and warmth of the storytelling approach, noting that the campaign uses “simple, endearing product demonstrations” to convey the benefits of Satellite Messaging. She highlighted the extraordinary effort invested in building the sets and characters, adding that the work communicates the product’s value in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand.

Micah Walker, Chief Creative Officer at Bear Meets Eagle On Fire, pointed to the alignment between the creative process and the technology itself. He observed that the precision and patience required in stop-motion animation mirror the invisible complexity behind satellite messaging, resulting in a final output that feels effortless yet memorable. Walker also credited director Catherine Prowse for infusing the films with a sense of charm that enhances their emotional resonance.

Supported by an integrated media strategy, the campaign will roll out across television, cinema, digital platforms, social media and retail environments, ensuring widespread visibility. Through this multi-channel approach, Telstra aims to reinforce its leadership in connectivity while resonating with audiences who travel, work or explore beyond conventional network boundaries.

By combining technical innovation with imaginative storytelling, the campaign not only highlights a practical solution for staying in touch off-grid but also reinforces Telstra’s broader narrative of connecting Australians wherever they may be.
