An award-winning journalist and global media literacy advocate, Kapoor has spearheaded initiatives impacting over 80 million people, earning international recognition for her pioneering work in fact-checking, AI literacy, and digital empowerment.

Urvashi Kapoor, one of India’s most dynamic voices in digital journalism and literacy, has been promoted to Executive Editor and General Manager at Jagran New Media. In her new role, Kapoor continues to lead the organisation’s Literacy vertical, a domain where she has already established herself as a trailblazer in media and AI literacy.

Widely recognised for her expertise in fact-checking, cybersecurity, and responsible technology use in journalism, Kapoor has built a formidable reputation as both a newsroom leader and a public educator. A certified trainer with the Google News Initiative India Training Network, she has designed and delivered large-scale media literacy programmes and award-winning workshops that have reached more than 80 million people across India. Her work reflects a deep commitment to empowering audiences with the tools to navigate misinformation, online scams, and emerging digital trends.

Kapoor’s collaborations with global technology and media organisations such as Google, Meta, and the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) have positioned her at the forefront of digital empowerment campaigns. She holds a copyright for one of India’s largest media literacy initiatives, underscoring her innovative approach to education and her determination to create lasting societal impact.

Her leadership has brought Jagran New Media’s literacy projects international acclaim, with honours including the INMA Global Media Awards 2024, WAN-IFRA South Asian Digital Media Gold and Bronze Awards, the E4M Digione Award, the AFAQs Media Brand Award, and the ICMA Award. Individually, Kapoor has been celebrated with the “40 Under 40 in Journalism” distinction, presented by the Governor of Kerala, recognising her outstanding contribution to the industry.

Beyond her editorial responsibilities, Kapoor is a familiar face to digital audiences as the host of Jagran’s Unscammed and TrendXplainer shows. These programmes, one of which has won awards for its focus on misinformation and scams, highlight her ability to translate complex digital issues into accessible narratives for the public.

Her influence extends well beyond India. As a fellow of the East-West Center, the National Press Foundation, and Sunway University, Kapoor has represented the country at international conferences and workshops in Norway, South Korea, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, and Turkey. She also serves on the governing council of the Trusted Information Alliance, contributing to national and global debates on AI, trust, safety, and digital literacy.

Kapoor’s promotion marks a significant milestone in her career, reinforcing her role as a thought leader in journalism and digital education. With nearly two decades of experience, she continues to shape the future of responsible media practices, ensuring that Jagran New Media remains a key player in the global conversation on trust, technology, and information literacy.
