IndiGo has announced Willie Walsh as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective 3 August 2026. Walsh, former Director General of IATA, brings decades of aviation leadership experience. His appointment signals IndiGo’s sharpened focus on global expansion and operational excellence, positioning the airline for ambitious growth in domestic and international markets.  

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has confirmed that Willie Walsh will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer at InterGlobe Aviation Ltd from 3 August 2026. The appointment marks a pivotal leadership transition as the carrier intensifies its focus on global expansion and operational excellence.  

Walsh, a seasoned aviation leader, previously served as Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he played a central role in shaping industry policy and strengthening collaboration among airlines worldwide. His career spans decades of steering large-scale airline businesses through complex challenges, cementing his reputation as one of the sector’s most influential figures.  

IndiGo’s decision to bring Walsh on board underscores its ambition to consolidate its domestic dominance while accelerating international growth.
