SHADOWS OF PONTVILLE: LARK’S ARCHITECTURAL WHISKY

LARK has unveiled No.211, a single-cask whisky created to embody the architecture and shifting light of its Pontville Distillery. With only 155 bottles produced, the release captures the site’s unique atmosphere, translating its interplay of shadows and shapes into a rare expression available exclusively at Pontville.

Pontville has long been woven into the narrative of LARK, the Tasmanian distillery renowned for its ability to root whisky in place and story. The latest release, No.211, is a single-cask whisky that belongs entirely to Pontville, both in spirit and in availability. With only 155 bottles produced, it is a rare expression designed to be experienced as much as tasted, a whisky that reflects the site’s distinctive character.

What struck the creators most about Pontville was not simply its heritage but its architecture, and the way the Tasmanian light transforms it throughout the day. The distillery’s structures are constantly reshaped by shifting shadows, angles and graphic silhouettes, creating a living canvas of movement and energy. This interplay of light and form became the starting point for No.211, a whisky conceived to capture the essence of Pontville’s atmosphere.

The idea was deceptively simple yet profoundly evocative: to translate the architecture, light and energy of Pontville into a whisky that feels like the experience of exploring the site itself. Just as a visitor might notice fleeting details – a shadow stretching across stone, a sharp angle softened by dusk, or a sudden burst of brightness – No.211 seeks to embody those moments. It is a collection of visual snippets and impressions distilled into liquid form, offering drinkers not just a taste but a memory of place.

By limiting the release to Pontville Distillery, LARK ensures that No.211 remains inseparable from its origins. The whisky is not merely produced there; it belongs there. Each bottle becomes a keepsake, a tangible reminder of the site’s architectural beauty and the ever-changing Tasmanian light that inspired it. In this way, No.211 is more than a spirit – it is a fragment of Pontville itself, captured and preserved.

For LARK, the release underscores a philosophy that whisky should be more than flavour; it should be an experience rooted in its environment. No.211 demonstrates how architecture and atmosphere can shape a narrative as compelling as the liquid in the glass. It is a whisky that invites reflection, encouraging drinkers to consider not only what they taste but where it comes from, and how the place itself has been distilled into the bottle.

With its rarity and its deep connection to Pontville, No.211 stands as a testament to LARK’s commitment to craftsmanship and storytelling. It is a whisky that belongs to a single place, yet speaks to anyone who values the interplay of environment, design and spirit. In capturing the shadows and light of Pontville, LARK has created a release that is both fleeting and enduring – a moment in time, bottled for those fortunate enough to find it.
