The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), operator of the Taj brand, is entering Bahrain through a $100 million partnership with Kingdom Projects. The development includes Bahrain’s first Taj hotel, branded residences, the launch of Bombay Brasserie, and a flagship Hamleys store, strengthening the presence of Indian brands in the Gulf.
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the hospitality group behind the iconic Taj brand, is set to make its long-awaited debut in Bahrain through a landmark $100 million investment in partnership with Kingdom Projects, signalling a major expansion of Indian hospitality and lifestyle brands into the Gulf market.
The venture will introduce Bahrain’s first Taj hotel, a luxury 200-room property planned for Downtown Seef, one of the kingdom’s most prominent commercial and residential districts. The development will also feature 80 branded residences, catering to growing demand for premium hospitality-linked living experiences in the region.
The move represents a significant milestone for IHCL as it continues to strengthen its international footprint beyond India. The Taj brand, synonymous with luxury hospitality and heritage, is expected to bring its distinctive service standards and design philosophy to Bahrain, a market increasingly focused on attracting high-end tourism, business travellers and long-term residents.
Alongside the hotel project, Bahrain will also welcome one of Taj’s most recognisable culinary concepts. Bombay Brasserie, the brand’s signature Indian restaurant, is set to open in Bahrain Bay, adding a contemporary interpretation of Indian cuisine to the country’s expanding dining scene. Known for combining traditional flavours with modern presentation, the restaurant is expected to appeal to both residents and visitors seeking premium dining experiences.
The expansion extends beyond hospitality and food. As part of the partnership, a flagship Hamleys store will open at The Avenues Bahrain, bringing one of the world’s best-known toy retailers to a prominent waterfront shopping destination. The addition is expected to enhance the family-oriented retail offering at the mall and further diversify Bahrain’s consumer landscape.
Both the Bombay Brasserie restaurant and the Hamleys outlet are targeted to open in early 2027, creating an integrated lifestyle proposition that blends hospitality, dining and retail under a broader vision of introducing leading Indian brands to new international audiences.
Industry observers see the development as a reflection of strengthening economic and cultural ties between India and the Gulf region. Bahrain has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for investment, tourism and real estate development, while Indian companies continue to seek growth opportunities in overseas markets with strong demand for premium products and services.
For Kingdom Projects, the collaboration brings a globally recognised hospitality name and established consumer brands into its portfolio. For IHCL, the Bahrain entry represents more than the launch of a hotel. It offers an opportunity to showcase an ecosystem of Indian luxury, culinary excellence and retail experiences in a market that values international brands and high-quality offerings.
As construction and preparations advance, the project is expected to contribute to Bahrain’s hospitality and tourism ambitions while providing a new platform for Indian brands to deepen their presence in the Middle East. With the arrival of Taj, Bombay Brasserie and Hamleys, Bahrain is poised to gain a new chapter in its evolving luxury and lifestyle landscape.
