Tata Play has promoted Abhishek Pathak to Chief Content Officer, placing a long-serving executive with 22 years of cross-industry experience at the centre of its content strategy. The move underscores the company’s focus on integrating media, streaming and connectivity services as it navigates a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
Tata Play has elevated Abhishek Pathak to the role of Chief Content Officer (CCO), entrusting the seasoned executive with the responsibility of shaping content strategy across the company’s media and connectivity businesses. The appointment marks a significant leadership move at one of India’s leading content distribution and broadband service providers.
Pathak brings 22 years of professional experience spanning media and entertainment, technology, connectivity and digital businesses. As Chief Content Officer, he will join Tata Play’s leadership team and help drive the company’s content vision at a time when consumer viewing habits continue to evolve rapidly across traditional television and digital platforms.
The promotion reflects Tata Play’s confidence in an executive who has played a pivotal role in the organisation’s growth journey. His experience includes business development, strategic partnerships, new venture launches, profit and loss management, and business transformation across a range of sectors. He has also worked extensively with pay television, over-the-top (OTT) platforms, broadband services and digital businesses, giving him a broad perspective on the converging worlds of content and connectivity.
Within Tata Play, Pathak has been instrumental in developing strategic partnerships, identifying new business opportunities and building growth engines for the company’s media and connectivity operations. His career at the company has been closely associated with understanding shifts in consumer behaviour and responding to the changing dynamics of the television, streaming and broadband markets.
The appointment comes as Tata Play continues to operate across a diversified portfolio that includes its direct-to-home television business, Tata Play Binge streaming platform and Tata Play Fiber broadband service. Managing content strategy across these interconnected offerings is expected to be a key aspect of Pathak’s expanded mandate.
Before taking charge as CCO, Pathak served as Senior Vice President and Head of Content at Tata Play. A member of the leadership team, he has been associated with the company since August 2011 and has accumulated more than 15 years of experience within the organisation.
His career extends beyond Tata Play. He previously worked with the Tata Group as Senior Manager for Brand, overseeing corporate brand management functions. Earlier assignments included strategy roles at Taj Hotels and positions in sales and marketing at Nicholas Piramal, providing him with experience across multiple industries and business functions.
With the elevation of Pathak, Tata Play is bringing together expertise in content, brand management, strategy and business transformation, signalling its intent to strengthen leadership as media consumption increasingly spans television, streaming and broadband ecosystems.
