US journalist Anne Godlasky has been named Director of Journalist Programmes at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. She will oversee the Institute’s flagship Journalist Fellowship Programme and other initiatives, joining the senior management team under Director Mitali Mukherjee.

Godlasky, who takes up her post immediately, brings extensive experience in editing, management and journalism education. She previously served as president of the National Press Foundation, where she led training programmes for reporters worldwide on democracy, AI, trade and health issues. Earlier, she spent over 16 years at USA Today in leadership roles across digital news, social media, and editorial teams.

A Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 2019–2020, she studied media innovation, leadership and narrative nonfiction. Her career began with high school journalism and freelance work for publications including The Prague Post and The York Dispatch.

On her appointment, Godlasky said she was “overjoyed and humbled” to join the Reuters Institute, describing fellowship programmes as vital to advancing journalism amid technological and audience shifts. “My goal is to help every journalist touched by the Reuters Institute to reach their full potential in ways sustainable for the field and their own well-being,” she added.

Mitali Mukherjee welcomed the appointment, noting Godlasky’s decades of newsroom and institutional experience. Helen Boaden, Chair of the Institute’s Steering Committee, praised her “calm, thoughtful manner” and commitment to ambitious journalistic training.

Godlasky will represent the Institute at global forums and work closely with the news industry, strengthening its mission to connect practice and research while shaping the future of journalism worldwide.
