HayWind One Limited, the wind energy arm of Hayleys Fentons, has received the first 25 MW of turbines for its 50 MW Mannar Wind Farm Project. The arrival at Trincomalee Port signals a major step in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy journey, promising Rs. 100 billion in fossil fuel savings.

HayWind One Limited, the renewable energy subsidiary of Hayleys Fentons Limited, has reached a defining milestone in Sri Lanka’s clean energy transition with the arrival of the first 25 MW of wind turbines for its Mannar Wind Farm Project. The shipment, which represents half of the project’s total 50 MW capacity, was successfully received at Trincomalee Port, marking the beginning of a complex and highly coordinated transport and installation phase.

The Mannar Wind Farm Project is expected to play a transformative role in Sri Lanka’s energy landscape. Once operational, the facility will generate significant renewable power capacity, delivering cumulative savings of approximately Rs. 100 billion in imported fossil fuel costs over its estimated 20-year lifecycle. This contribution will not only strengthen national energy security but also accelerate the country’s transition towards cleaner, more cost-effective energy generation.

The turbines, manufactured by Envision Energy Technology Pte Ltd, are among the most advanced in the sector. Five of the ten turbines will now be transported to the Mannar project site, with the transfer of components scheduled to continue over the next three months. The delivery operation is one of the largest and most technically demanding renewable energy transport exercises ever undertaken in Sri Lanka.

Oversized turbine blades, tower sections, and nacelles will be moved across multiple districts, requiring carefully coordinated heavy-haul logistics. Extensive engineering assessments and route planning have been conducted to ensure the safe passage of these massive components to the Mannar site. The logistical effort underscores the scale and ambition of the project, reflecting both the technical expertise and the collaborative planning required to execute such a complex undertaking.

Beyond its immediate economic and environmental benefits, the Mannar Wind Farm Project represents a symbolic step forward in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy ambitions. By reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels, the project will help mitigate the volatility of global energy markets while supporting the country’s broader sustainability goals. It also demonstrates the growing role of private sector leadership in advancing national priorities for clean energy and climate resilience.

For HayWind One Limited, this milestone reinforces its position as a key player in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns with global trends in energy transition, positioning Sri Lanka to benefit from both environmental and economic gains.

As the turbines make their way from Trincomalee to Mannar, the project stands as a testament to engineering precision, logistical coordination, and strategic foresight. When fully operational, the Mannar Wind Farm will not only deliver clean power but also embody Sri Lanka’s determination to chart a sustainable energy future.
