SALVABAR: A TASTE OF BAHIA IN RIO

Salvabar, a new restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, channels chef Fabricio Chagas’s Bahian heritage into a dining experience shaped by memory and culture. Designed by Estúdio Biabum, its identity blends landscapes, symbols and family history, creating a welcoming brand world that celebrates Bahia’s spirit and storytelling through food, design and place.

Salvabar, the new Brazilian restaurant in Rio de Janeiro, is more than a dining destination; it is a living memory of chef Fabricio Chagas, who has drawn deeply from his Bahian heritage to create a space where food, culture and storytelling converge. Conceived with the creative vision of Estúdio Biabum, the restaurant’s identity is rooted in Bahia’s landscapes, traditions and spirit, transforming personal history into an experience that feels both authentic and welcoming.

The brand world of Salvabar is built upon the textures and colours of Bahia itself. Biabum’s design draws inspiration from the region’s coastline, dry inland expanses and mangrove ecosystems, translating them into a visual language that permeates the restaurant’s interiors and communications. The logotype, reminiscent of hand-painted book lettering, evokes a sense of craft and intimacy, while a reimagined carranca symbol — traditionally carved to ward off evil spirits — adds a layer of cultural resonance. Restored family photographs further enrich the atmosphere, grounding the restaurant in memory and heritage.

This interplay of design and narrative ensures that Salvabar is not simply a place to eat, but a place to belong. Every detail, from the illustrations to the spatial composition, reflects Bahia’s vibrancy and resilience, inviting guests to step into a story that is both personal and collective. The restaurant’s identity is a celebration of home, where the past is honoured and the present is infused with warmth.

Fabricio Chagas’s vision is clear: Salvabar is a tribute to the landscapes and traditions that shaped him, translated into a contemporary dining experience that resonates with authenticity. By weaving together food, design and storytelling, the restaurant becomes a cultural landmark in Rio, offering a taste of Bahia that is as much about memory as it is about flavour.

In an era where restaurants often chase novelty, Salvabar stands apart by embracing heritage. Its identity, crafted by Biabum, is a reminder that the most compelling stories are those rooted in place, memory and human connection. Salvabar is not just a restaurant; it is a homecoming, a celebration of Bahia’s spirit brought to life in Rio de Janeiro.
