VORTEX STUDIOS REIMAGINES MADRAS THROUGH THREE VISUAL MOODS FOR ROYAL ENFIELD’S RED CLASSIC

Vortex Studios has created a three-film visual campaign for Royal Enfield that presents Madras through colour, sound and style. Featuring the Classic 350, the films blend Bharatanatyam, architecture, streets, music, fashion and South Indian cinematic influences to make the motorcycle feel naturally rooted in the city’s distinctive cultural identity.

Madras becomes more than a backdrop in a new three-film campaign created by Vortex Studios for Royal Enfield. Instead, the city emerges as a character in its own right, with three distinct films offering different perspectives on its streets, sounds, culture and style, all connected by the striking red of the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Conceived around the idea that the motorcycle did not need to be simply placed in Madras but had to feel as though it belonged there, the campaign explores the relationship between the city and the iconic motorcycle through three visual interpretations: The Red, The Rhythm and The Style.

The Red takes a sensory approach to Madras, bringing together Bharatanatyam, streetscapes, architecture, flowers and the red Classic 350. Rather than relying solely on conventional product imagery, the film appears to weave the motorcycle into the city’s visual language, allowing colour, movement and cultural references to establish a strong sense of place.

The Rhythm approaches the city through sound. Here, Madras becomes a soundtrack for the motorcycle, with the film using the city’s sonic character to shape its narrative. The approach shifts the focus from what the city looks like to how it feels and sounds, creating a connection between the pulse of urban life and the movement of the Classic 350.

The Style takes a more character-driven route, following two friends against a distinctly Madras backdrop. Madras checks, lungis, the Classic 350 and touches of South Indian cinema swagger come together to create a relaxed visual language that draws on familiar elements of local fashion and popular culture.

Together, the three films avoid treating the city as a generic location. Each establishes its own mood and visual vocabulary while retaining the red colour as a common thread. The result is a campaign that attempts to connect the Classic 350 with the cultural character of Madras rather than simply using the city as a picturesque setting.

For Royal Enfield, such storytelling provides an opportunity to position the motorcycle within the lived culture of a place. For Vortex Studios, the campaign demonstrates how multiple short-form films can explore one brand idea from different creative perspectives without losing a unified identity.

The campaign was produced by Vortex Studios, which also served as the agency and production house. Uttara Rana handled creative strategy, production and art direction, while Sumit Maurya served as executive producer and director. Tushar Maurya was the creative director, with cinematography by Sumit Maurya, Tushar Maurya and Ayush Dhoundiyal.

Editing was handled by Sumit Maurya, Tushar Maurya and Suraj Mani, with Sumit Maurya also working as colourist. Ankit Sharma was the photographer, while Ayush Dhoundiyal handled production.

By approaching Madras through three different lenses — visual identity, sound and personal style — the campaign turns a motorcycle film into a portrait of a city. Its central creative proposition is simple: the strongest sense of belonging comes not from showing a product in a place, but from making the product feel as though it has always been part of that place.
