Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced a leadership transition in Asia Pacific, appointing Sunjae Sharma to a wider regional role in Hong Kong while naming Vikas Chawla as president for India and Southwest Asia. The move supports Hyatt’s growth ambitions across the region and strengthens leadership in key markets.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced a leadership transition in its Asia Pacific operations, elevating Sunjae Sharma to a broader regional role while appointing Vikas Chawla as president for India and Southwest Asia, according to a report by Mint.

The changes form part of the hospitality group’s strategy to reinforce its regional leadership as it accelerates expansion plans across Asia Pacific, one of the industry’s most dynamic growth markets. By reshaping its leadership structure, the company aims to strengthen oversight and operational capabilities across key territories.

Sharma, who currently serves as managing director for India and Southwest Asia, will relocate to Hong Kong to take on a strategic role overseeing wider regional responsibilities. The move reflects the company’s intent to leverage his extensive experience in building the brand’s presence in high-growth markets.

In an internal communication, David Udell said Sharma’s new position underscores the organisation’s focus on scaling operations and driving growth across the Asia Pacific region. The leadership transition is designed to align with Hyatt’s long-term development ambitions as travel demand rebounds and new opportunities emerge across hospitality markets.

Udell also credited Sharma with playing a significant role in strengthening Hyatt’s footprint in India since he joined the company in 2002 at the Grand Hyatt Delhi. Over the past two decades, Sharma has been instrumental in expanding the brand’s presence in the country, enhancing operational performance and nurturing hospitality talent within the organisation.

With Chawla stepping into the role of president for India and Southwest Asia, Hyatt is positioning itself to sustain momentum in a market that continues to see rising demand for premium and luxury hospitality offerings. The leadership transition signals the company’s commitment to reinforcing its regional strategy while preparing the next phase of growth across Asia Pacific.
