Standard Chartered Bangladesh has appointed Enamul Huque as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 September 2026. The veteran banker, who has spent 25 years with the institution across multiple markets, succeeds Naser Ezaz Bijoy, who stepped down earlier this year after nearly nine years in the role.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh has announced the appointment of Enamul Huque as its Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at the bank. His tenure begins on 1 September 2026, nearly three months after the departure of Naser Ezaz Bijoy, who had helmed the bank for close to a decade.
Huque, a seasoned banker with a career spanning 25 years at Standard Chartered, brings extensive experience in corporate and institutional banking across Bangladesh and other international markets. He most recently served as the bank’s Country Chief Risk Officer, a role he assumed in April 2025, where he was responsible for strengthening risk management frameworks and ensuring resilience in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
His appointment underscores Standard Chartered’s commitment to continuity and deep institutional knowledge, as Huque has been closely associated with the bank’s strategic priorities and operational growth. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping client relationships, driving innovation in banking services, and reinforcing the bank’s position as a trusted partner in Bangladesh’s financial sector.
The leadership change comes at a time when Bangladesh’s banking industry is navigating both opportunities and challenges, from digital transformation and regulatory reforms to increasing competition in retail and corporate banking. Huque’s long-standing association with Standard Chartered and his expertise in risk and governance are expected to provide stability and strategic direction as the bank continues to expand its footprint in the country.
Standard Chartered, one of the oldest international banks operating in Bangladesh, has consistently emphasised its role in supporting economic growth and development. With Huque at the helm, the bank is poised to strengthen its focus on customer-centric growth, sustainable finance, and innovation, aligning with its global brand promise of being “Here for Good.”
Huque’s appointment also reflects the bank’s emphasis on nurturing leadership from within, ensuring that its top executives are deeply attuned to both local market dynamics and global banking trends. His leadership is anticipated to reinforce Standard Chartered’s position as a leading player in Bangladesh’s financial services sector, while building on the legacy of his predecessor, Naser Ezaz Bijoy.
