The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has appointed Vijay Sankar as its President-Elect for 2026-27. The Chennai-based industrialist, who currently serves as FICCI Senior Vice President, will assume the presidency in November 2026, bringing extensive leadership experience across industry, corporate governance and sports administration.

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has announced the appointment of Vijay Sankar as its President-Elect for the year 2026-27, positioning the veteran industrialist to take charge of one of India’s most influential business organisations next year.

Sankar, who currently serves as Senior Vice President of FICCI, will succeed Anant Goenka as President of the apex industry chamber at the conclusion of the FICCI Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention scheduled to be held in New Delhi on 18-19 November 2026.

The appointment marks another significant milestone in Sankar’s long-standing engagement with Indian industry and business leadership. As Chairman of The Sanmar Group, headquartered in Chennai, he has played a prominent role in shaping the growth and diversification of one of the country’s well-known industrial conglomerates.

FICCI, which represents businesses across sectors and works closely with policymakers on issues affecting trade, investment and economic development, has traditionally drawn its leadership from experienced figures in Indian industry. Sankar’s elevation reflects his standing within the business community as well as his extensive corporate governance experience.

Beyond his responsibilities at The Sanmar Group, Sankar serves as an Independent Director on the boards of TVS Motor Company Limited and Larsen & Toubro Limited, two of India’s leading corporate entities. His presence on the boards of companies spanning manufacturing, engineering and infrastructure underscores a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the Indian economy.

He also chairs Chemplast Sanmar Limited, further strengthening his credentials in industrial leadership and corporate management. His experience across multiple sectors is expected to bring a practical and strategic perspective to FICCI’s engagement with industry stakeholders and government institutions.

Industry observers note that the coming years will be important for Indian businesses as they navigate evolving global economic conditions, technological transformation and changing trade dynamics. In that context, leadership at organisations such as FICCI assumes added significance, with business chambers playing a key role in articulating industry concerns and supporting economic growth initiatives.

Sankar’s profile extends beyond the corporate world. He is also the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA), highlighting his involvement in sports administration and community engagement. The role reflects a broader commitment to institutional development beyond the boardroom.

His forthcoming presidency is expected to build on FICCI’s longstanding efforts to strengthen industry-government collaboration, encourage investment and support the competitiveness of Indian enterprises in domestic and international markets.

With a distinguished career spanning industry leadership, boardroom stewardship and participation in public institutions, Sankar is set to take over the reins of FICCI at a pivotal moment for Indian business. As preparations begin for the chamber’s annual convention in November 2026, attention will increasingly turn to the priorities and agenda he will bring to the organisation when he formally assumes its highest office.
