Dyson has launched the CameraJet toothbrush, a device equipped with a built‑in camera and advanced machine learning to target plaque removal. Dyson has once again redefined the boundaries of everyday technology with the launch of its CameraJet toothbrush, unveiled by founder and chief engineer James Dyson in Paris on 1 September. The device, which integrates a built‑in camera and advanced machine learning, is set to debut in select markets, with details of its India release to follow.
At the heart of the CameraJet is a 100,000‑pixel macro lens camera paired with Dyson’s proprietary Gap Optical Targeting system. This system scans 28 live images per second, identifying gaps between teeth and triggering a conical jet of mouthrinse within 100 milliseconds. The precision of this mechanism is underpinned by a machine learning model trained on 470,000 dental images, supported by 16 million lines of code.
The toothbrush does not stop at imaging. It combines this optical intelligence with sonic brushing technology. Dyson’s variable sonic oscillation alters the angle of movement to keep bristles in constant motion, while a dual‑bristle brush head balances firmer inner bristles for tooth surfaces with softer outer bristles for the gumline. According to external testing, this system removed up to 69 per cent more plaque in hard‑to‑reach areas compared with leading premium electric toothbrushes.
Another notable feature is the integrated 12.5ml mouthrinse tank, designed to deliver a conical jet that provides wider coverage at lower pressure. To validate its effectiveness, Dyson collaborated with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry over five years, developing its own proxy plaque to rigorously test plaque‑removal performance.
The CameraJet represents Dyson’s latest foray into health‑focused consumer technology, blending engineering precision with dental science. The company’s emphasis on combining optical imaging, machine learning and mechanical design reflects its broader ambition to transform everyday routines into high‑performance experiences.
