Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV launch Indian Idol Legends Return on 17 October, reuniting 24 celebrated voices from past seasons as 12 duos in a fresh competitive format. With Himesh Reshammiya as judge and Aditya Narayan hosting, the Fremantle-produced show blends nostalgia, rivalry and musical chemistry every weekend at 8 PM.
Indian Idol, one of India’s most enduring reality formats, is set to reimagine its legacy with a new season that brings back familiar voices in a fresh competitive arena. Indian Idol Legends Return, premiering on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV on 17 October, will see 24 singers from across seasons paired into 12 duos, each vying for supremacy in a format designed to test not only their vocal prowess but also their ability to collaborate and innovate.
Produced by Fremantle, the show positions itself as a musical battle of legends, where past winners and finalists return to prove that success once achieved must be earned again. The season’s guiding thought — “Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar baar jeetna padta hai” — sets the tone for a contest that demands versatility, teamwork and resilience.
Returning as Superstar Judge is Himesh Reshammiya, whose presence adds both credibility and star power. Hosting duties fall to Aditya Narayan, whose familiarity with the Idol stage ensures continuity and energy. In a twist to the format, contestants will not only be judged by Himesh but also by their peers, introducing a dynamic of mutual evaluation that raises the stakes and adds fresh perspectives to the competition.
Audiences can expect to reconnect with voices such as Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana, Salman Ali and Sayli Kamble, among others. For these artists, the challenge lies in discovering new chemistry within their duos and delivering performances that stand out against an experienced field. The format demands that each pairing find its rhythm and create renditions that surprise and delight, ensuring that nostalgia is balanced with novelty.
Himesh Reshammiya emphasises the thrill of renewed competition: “Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar-baar jeetna padta hai. This season is not just about celebrating the voices that have shaped Indian Idol’s legacy, but also about witnessing their determination to win and their ability to surprise us all over again.”
For Sony Entertainment Television, the season represents both a celebration and an evolution. Harsh Sheth, Business Head, notes: “With Indian Idol Legends Return, we’re taking the legacy to an entirely new level by bringing some of the most iconic voices back into the spotlight. Nostalgia meets the thrill of fresh competition, making this the biggest season ever.”
Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director at Fremantle, highlights the innovation: “Marrying the gold of Idol fandom with the newness of duet performances for the first time ever in the history of the format worldwide, Indian Idol Legends Return is setting its own bar. Nostalgia, chemistry, competitive fire and renewed inspiration make this season extraordinary.”
As the duos prepare to battle it out every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM, Indian Idol Legends Return promises to deliver not just music but moments of drama, camaraderie and reinvention. For audiences, it is an invitation to relive the voices they once cheered for, while witnessing them rise to the challenge of winning hearts all over again.
