Sydney’s Circular Quay hosted a one-day Spider-Man activation for the home entertainment release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Organised by Organic for Sony Pictures Television, the event drew 1,500+ fans, featured competitions, exclusive merchandise, and money-can’t-buy prizes, cementing Spider-Man’s cultural impact while extending the film’s excitement into fans’ homes.
Sydney’s Circular Quay was transformed into Spider-Man’s friendly neighbourhood last week, as more than 1,500 fans gathered to celebrate the home entertainment release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Delivered by Organic on behalf of Sony Pictures Television, the one-day-only free pop-up activation turned one of the city’s most iconic locations into a hub of fandom, complete with immersive activities, competitions, and a special appearance from Spider-Man himself.
The activation drew droves of fans throughout the day, with over 200 arriving dressed as the friendly neighbourhood hero, creating a striking sea of Spidey suits along the harbour. Attendees were invited to put their skills to the test in a Spidey-senses game and web-slinging competition, while cooling down with free ice cream spiders—an unmistakably Australian twist on the celebration.
The event also offered exclusive rewards. The first 50 fans to arrive in costume secured limited-edition merchandise packs created solely for the activation, unavailable for purchase elsewhere. In addition, three lucky entrants in the photo competition took home money-can’t-buy prizes, including a signed Spider-Man: Brand New Day poster featuring signatures from Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Destin Daniel Cretton, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Alongside the poster, winners received a Sony BRAVIA 75-inch TV and a coveted PlayStation 5, underscoring the scale of the campaign’s fan-first approach.
The numbers told the story of the day’s success: more than 1,500 fans visited the activation, 1,500 ice cream spiders were served, 1,200 pieces of merchandise distributed, and 800 fans participated in the challenges. The turnout demonstrated the enduring appeal of Spider-Man and the effectiveness of creating cultural moments that extend beyond the screen.
Gabrielle Davies, Director of Marketing at Sony Pictures Television, reflected on the activation’s impact: “It was exciting to see fans come together to celebrate their friendly neighbourhood hero—many lining up two hours before the activation even opened. We loved bringing Spider-Man to life for Australian fans with a day of fun, prizes and money-can’t-buy moments, whilst making it a uniquely Australian experience. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day now available to buy or rent at home, fans can watch it over and over again in the comfort of their homes.”
Annabelle Gigliotti, Managing Director of Organic, emphasised the importance of creating experiences that resonate with audiences: “Great fandom activations don’t just happen; Organic knows that you must give people a reason to show up and take part. Our brief was to turn the excitement around Spider-Man: Brand New Day into a live cultural moment that fans could physically experience and share. It needed to be unmistakably Australian whilst also being undeniably Spidey. Seeing 1,500+ fans lining up at Circular Quay to be a part of the experience proved the power of creating cultural moments that put fandom at the heart of the campaign.”
As Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes available to buy or rent at home, the Circular Quay activation ensured that the excitement surrounding the film extended far beyond its release. By blending spectacle, exclusivity, and community, Sony Pictures and Organic delivered a uniquely Australian celebration that reinforced Spider-Man’s cultural resonance and gave fans a day to remember.
